Liverpool FC has gone from being one of the best run clubs twenty years ago to now being one of the worse. Club cohesion has been destroyed, the relationship between the club and its supporters has been compromised, and - dare I say it - after vast outlays of money (none of which, apparently we could remotely afford) we are left with an indifferent squad of players managed by a man who, frankly, doesn't seem to have a clue what he is doing.
The myth of Rafa being a master tactician is just that - a myth! For example, the team he selected to play AC Milan in Istanbul was embarrassingly defeated 3-0. The team he was forced to play in the second half won 3-0, then went on to lift the trophy in glorious style. This is a manager who has never beaten a top five club away from home. Not once, never! This is also a man who (brilliant tactician that he is) takes Gerrard off against Reading (disaster) and starts the game with a defensive formation at home to Wigan (another disaster and a gross insult to the Kop). The loudest noise to be heard at Anfield these days is the scratching of 40,000 heads as the Anfield faithful ponder formations, tactics and rotation policies that to any football-savvy onlooker appear bizarre.
I watched my first game at Anfield in 1964. I've been there most home games since. Never have I felt so bewildered. I am now so freaked-out regarding team selection and Rafa's 'brilliant tactics' that I was genuinely concerned the Spaniard might do something so insane that we lost at home to Havant & Waterlooville. Ridiculous, of course, but that is the level of paranoia the man has reduced me to.
So come on Scousers - you witnessed Shanks and Paisley, you know your football better than most, are you really going to be taken in by this managerial bullsh*t?
