Liverpool Argee Deal for £25m Portuguese Sensation

Liverpool have agreed a deal to bring Benfica left-back Fabio Coentrao to Anfield when the summer transfer window opens for business.

Coentrao has been impressive for Benfica this season and has been on the radar of a number of top European clubs including Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Since Kenny Dalglish took over at Liverpool in January, a left-back as been top of the agenda.

Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli, over the past couple of months have been linked with Newcaslte's Jose Enrique, Everton's Leighton Baines and Arsenal's Gael Clichy.

However according to Portuguese publication Correio da Manha, the Merseyside club have agreed a fee of £25million for the Portugal international Coentrao.

The 23-year-old is versatile and will fit into Dalglish's plans as he can operate as a left-back and on the left wing.

The Liverpool boss will hope Coentrao can create chances for the £50m forward partnership of Andy Carroll and Luis Suárez.

This season Coentrao has made 35 appearances, scored four goals and provided one assist in all competitions as Benfica made it to the semi-finals of the Europa League and finished second in the Portuguese league.

FRIEDEL IN BIG DEMAND

West Brom are the latest club to be linked with Brad Friedel, but it looks to be a two-club fight between Liverpool and Spurs for the Villa keeper.

Such an intense level of interest in the 40-year-old is a little surprising given that his best days are - surely - behind him, but the Mail reckons that Liverpool have offered the American a two-year deal while 'Harry Redknapp wants Friedel to battle Carlo Cudicini and Heurelho Gomes'.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is looking to bring in a centre-back Scott Dann from Birmingham to provide competition for Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel. The Reds need cover as Daniel Agger has had a succession of injury problems and Sotirios Kyrgiakos is likely to leave Anfield this summer.
