What's really the problem with the club is that we're too contented with good, as in mid-table standards good, instead of outstanding players. Or maybe we've all been clouded by the atrocious off-days, anything else seems good. Haha...

My point is, lets not make up excuses about injuries or "adapting to environment" (which like, always take forever for some players, heh). The squad has always been too scarily inconsistent, 2nd team or not.

Liverpool FC target former Manchester United starlet as Carragher replacement

Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross has been lined up as a January target for Liverpool as they look to provide cover for the injured Jamie Carragher.

The Reds' vice-captain will be sidelined for the next three months after dislocating his shoulder in Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Tottenham, forcing Roy Hodgson to consider his options in the upcoming transfer window.

Shawcross has been regularly linked with a move to Anfield over the previous 18 months with Hodgson's predecessor Rafael Benitez considering a move for defender, who has established himself at the Britannia Stadium since leaving Manchester United in 2006.

It is understood that Lucas Leiva could head to the Potteries as a makeweight in any deal after emerging as one of the player atop of Tony Pulis' wish list in the summer.

Gignac set for Liverpool?

Toulouse striker Andre-Pierre Gignac could be on his way to Liverpool, according to French reports.

The Sport 10 network said that Gignac's agent is trying to push through a move to the Anfield outfit.

The 24-year-old is a tall, strong striker with great finishing abilities. He has great control and can beat defenders with his skill in tight situations. He is also takes dangerous free-kicks.

Gignac scored 11 goals for Toulouse FC last season.

He is contracted to his club until 2013 and he is valued at 15M-20M.

Giovani dos Santos is poised to join Genoa, leaving Tottenham Hotspur with a threadbare selection of only 94 attacking midfielders.

Several clubs in Mexico are also interested, as are Liverpool, though the Anfield side doesn't sound like much of a fit to the Rumour Mill, what with Dos Santos playing on the wing and offering width.

Pepe Reina has again refuted speculation that he will leave Liverpool by insisting he is fully committed to the club.

Reports claim that arch rivals Manchester United and Arsenal are keeping tabs on the goalkeeper's situation despite his dismissal of a move away from Anfield last month.

Reina skippered Liverpool during last night's Europa League draw with Steaua Bucharest in the absence of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher and reiterated to reporters in the Romanian capital that he has six years remaining on his current deal.

Well if you keep asking, I am going to ignore it," he said.

i'd disagree with the contented part..
the wagebill, and raising prices on roughly the same amt of revenue is a >BIG< factor..
u know, like the wage increase vs inflation in sg..

didnt spend well in the past (mostly), but wats done's done and now gotta recover..
and this boss not exactly renown as someone who buys well..

u'd love to find a gem like hyppia, comes in on a cheap transfer, settled in within 5games and gives a decade's wonderful service, but even him, u'll have something to moan abt..

Champions slump at Lazio

Lazio moved Level on points with AC Milan at the top of Serie A thanks to an impressive 3-1 win over a lacklustre Inter Milan, increasing the pressure on Inter boss Rafael Benitez.

Giuseppe Biava put the hosts in front in the 26th minute and they seemed to be cruising to victory when Mauro Zarate doubled their lead in the 53rd minute.

However, Goran Pandev gave the defending champions hope in the 74th minute before the inexorable Hernanes sealed a deserved win for Lazio with a free-kick in the 89th minute.

Lazio had the first chance of the game in the 18th minute when Sergio Floccari managed to divert a cross towards the goal with his shoulder and Luca Castellazzi made a save on the stretch. The ball fell to Stefano Mauri, but his shot was blocked by Javier Zanetti.

The Biancoceleste took a deserved lead eight minutes later, although there was a touch of fortune about the way in which Biava put them in front.

Hernanes' header was blocked by Castellazzi, but the ball looped towards the goal with the Inter goalkeeper on the floor unable to react.

Esteban Cambiasso came to his rescue, but his goalline clearance was hit straight into the midriff of Biava and the ball cannoned back into the goal.

A good counter-attack almost led to a second goal for Lazio two minutes later with Floccari pulling the ball back towards Mauri, but Zanetti got back to make a crucial saving tackle for the second time in the match.

The hosts looked even better early in the second half and Zarate doubled their advantage eight minutes in.

He was picked out by Hernanes, although a poor attempt to clear the ball by Inter's debutant defender Felice Natalino assisted him as he ran through and lifted the ball past Castellazzi from eight yards.

Floccari missed the chance to make it three in the 57th minute as Lazio threatened to run riot at the Stadio Olimpico.

Hernanes shot 10 minutes later was parried to Floccari, who set up Mauri to wrap up the win, but he dragged his shot wide.

Inter then grabbed a lifeline thanks to Pandev's first goal since February in the 74th minute.

The Macedonian striker got lucky with two rebounds, one off Biava and the other off Dias before shooting past Nelson Muslera, who had otherwise had a quiet night.

All of a sudden, Inter were on top and Ivan Cordoba almost brought them level from a corner, but Muslera made the save.

But Hernanes gave the result a more realistic look in the 89th minute with a direct free-kick which took a slight deflection off the wall on its way in.

Wesley Sneijder hit the crossbar in stoppage time, but Inter were unable to find a way back into the game as Lazio returned to the top of Serie A in style.

The result leaves Benitez's Inter seven points off pole position.
