LIVERPOOL TO MAKE £15M YOUNG MOVE
The headline transfer gossip of the morning is The Daily Mirror's claim that Liverpool are ready to make a move to lure Ashley Young out of Aston Villa.
'Hodgson and transfer negotiator Damien Comolli are working on the ambitious project and hope to seal a deal worth £15million for the England winger in January,' says the paper. 'Anfield's new American owners are willing to find the cash for Young as they chase a Champions League place.'
And could it really happen? The Mirror reckons it really could.
'Young could be persuaded to join the exodus from Villa, who lost James Milner at the start of the campaign and are now under pressure to keep their next star. Villa will want a big fee for Young but Liverpool sources are quietly confident they can come to an agreement on price, especially if the player indicates that he fancies the move.'
POOL ALSO WANT FANNI
There's another item of Liverpool transfer goss in the Daily Telegraph.
According to the paper, 'Liverpool have targeted the French full-back, Rod Fanni, as their primary defensive reinforcement for the January transfer window, casting doubt on the Anfield futures of Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger.'
Got all that?
'Roy Hodgson, the club's manager, and Damien Comolli, the newly-appointed director of football strategy, believe the 29 year-old's versatility - he is comfortable at right-back and centre-back - makes him ideal to strengthen Liverpool's injury-ravaged defence.'
The Telegraph also adds that Fanni may cost as little as £2.5 million.
