The quote from Shankly at Melwood reads: "Above all, I would like to be remembered as a man who was selfless, who strove and worried so that others could share the glory, and who built up a family of people who could hold their heads up high and say 'We are Liverpool'.

MANYOO WANT REINA AS THEIR NEXT GOALKEEPER

gravy for meatballs spaghetti!

The Daily Mirror says that 'Sir Alex Ferguson wants Pepe Reina to be Manchester United's new No.1.'

The paper claims that 'Ferguson is at the head of a queue of clubs who believe Liverpool star Reina may become available because of unrest at Anfield.'

There's been plenty of rumour in recent weeks that Reina has become disenchanted with life at Anfield and The Daily Mail claimed at the weekend that the goalkeeper wasn't particularly impressed with Roy Hodgson's training regime either.

A transfer to Old Trafford has to be considered unlikely, however, because it would be without modern precedent. It's been almost seventy years since a Liverpool player moved to United.

'Liverpool do not want to sell, and especially not to their fierce rivals. But there is a growing feeling that Reina may be available,' says the adamant Mirror.

not a chance. we've new owners now and perhaps even some transfer funds. however, SAF can sign louya leiva, bubblegum, nab*h ulcer and dirty kite. :bsmilie:

LIVERPOOL TO SPEND LESS, NOT MORE
Posted 27/10/10 08:42

Liverpool are not expected to make any big-money signings in January, with new owner John W Henry reportedly set to take a 'hands-on' role overseeing the club's transfer dealings.

Quashing any hopes that the takeover NESV would spark an instant spending spree in the transfer market, both The Daily Telegraph and The Independent report that the club's new American owners instead want to put an end to what they reputedly consider to be the club's recent profligate spending.

"We have to be smart," Henry is quoted as saying by both newspapers. "We have to be more efficient. When we spend a dollar, it has to be wisely. We cannot afford player contracts that do not make long-term sense."

According to The Independent, Henry 'has made it clear already that he is not happy with the number of older players at the club who are earning big money on long contracts. Henry is expected to play a hands-on role at Anfield, assessing Hodgson's transfer targets and setting budgets for contract renegotiations.

'His organisation is not thought to blame the former Fulham man for Liverpool's travails this season, but they do see it as evidence that a closer eye is needed on the club's transfer business.'

A concurring Telegraph declares: 'The American consortium has made it clear it expects value for money, both from fees and salaries. Henry will take an active role in football matters at Anfield, assessing both Hodgson's suggested transfer targets and setting budgets for contract renegotiations of players already at the club.

'The 61 year-old has already expressed his concern at the wages earned by older players on long-term, high-value contracts.'

Glamour signings will thus be shunned in favour of following 'the Arsenal model - for which NESV has been keen to stress its admiration - or, perhaps more pertinently, institute on an informal basis the transfer policy employed at Manchester United, where premium fees are only paid for younger players with resale potential.'

SKRTEL SEEKS WINNING MENTALITY
Posted 27/10/10 16:26

Martin Skrtel is hoping Liverpool can take their winning mentality to Bolton on Sunday.

Roy Hodgson's men secured a 2-1 victory over Blackburn last weekend to give themselves a chance of moving out of the relegation zone.

Slovakia star Skrtel wants the Reds to build on this crucial win for the potentially tricky trip to the Reebok on Sunday to face the high-flying Trotters.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "A team like Liverpool has to be all about winning and I hope that we will carry it on from Blackburn on to the Bolton game.

"I think our performances will get better and better now. In the past few months there has been some trouble around the club (with the owners) and now we know the situation is done.

"That means it is all about the players now. We have got to carry on and work hard on the pitch for the club. We have got to show our quality and our heart and keep going so we can improve."

Prior to the Blackburn win, the Reds secured a creditable goalless draw against Napoli in the Europa League and Skrtel is pleased with the way Hodgson's side have performed in the last two games.

"We really needed three points because we have been under pressure and everyone was expecting us to beat Blackburn - thankfully we got them," he said.

"The game in Napoli was a good performance, we created some chances but couldn't score. It was a small step and hopefully things will be better now because of these moments.

"The league table has not been nice to look at but, when you look at it, the teams are all very close together and if we keep winning, we will be going higher."

Skrtel also hailed defensive partner Sotirios Kyrgiakos, who scored in the victory over Rovers.

"Things are going really well with Soto - he is a great player and a good guy," he said.

"He is very good in the set-pieces and wins everything in the air."

sibeh sian. no $$ for new signings in january?!

we need at least 1 new good striking partner for torres and a couple of new midfielders who can take over from kouya leiva and that useless poulsen.

Oh shucks!! Another American with no money. All that bullshit about getting value for money is another way of saying that he don't have the money to spare, or he is just concern with making profits. :nono:
