With one eye on this weekend's vital Barclays Premier League game against Blackburn, the Reds' boss has opted to leave his star duo behind on Merseyside to give them maximum preparation time ahead of Sunday's fixture.
Midfielders Raul Meireles and Lucas have also been omitted from the 20-man squad which flew to Italy this morning.
Hodgson is already without Glen Johnson (injury) and Daniel Agger (illness) for the game, but Christian Poulsen is fit to return to the squad after missing Sunday's defeat to Everton.

i thot europa league will be our best chance of silverware this season...but everyone's fave here RH has other plans and rested big players for the trip to naples...keeping them for the game against blackburn...is BLACKburn too strong for us that we need all our big players? oh yes i think so coz BLACKpool beat us at home...what a shame...:embrass:
