Liverpool FC News: Gerard Houllier puts the boot into Benitez :bsmilie:

GERARD HOULLIER has launched an astonishing attack on former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez by claiming it was he that was largely responsible for the club’s Champions League final triumph in 2005.

And the 63-year-old Frenchman believes the Spaniard was lucky to inherit a club in good health but has ultimately destroyed that legacy for new manager and close friend Roy Hodgson. Speaking of Liverpool’s memorable win over AC Milan five years ago, Houllier said: “Twelve out of 14 in Istanbul were players I had signed or developed. I left Liverpool with a team and in the Champions League. But when you finish seventh with Torres and Gerrard…

“When I came into the changing room in Istanbul some of the players said: ‘Boss, it’s your team’. After Rafa Benitez left this summer, one of the players sent me a message. He said, ‘Boss, he hasn’t beaten you’.”

Houllier believes his pioneering approach during six years at Anfield made life easier when Benitez took over in June 2004. The Frenchman said: “One, the pattern of getting a foreign coach was already accepted. Two, he had a Champions League winning team. Three, the team were already in the Champions League. Four, we had built new facilities. And five, it was a different training routine, different attitude and mentality.

“I claim that we – Phil Thompson, Sammy Lee and the staff – definitely turned it round. The chairman, when I left, said ‘You put the club into the 21st Century’.”

Liverpool keen to offload David Ngog for £6m to raise funds for new signings

Liverpool are believed to be in line to sell David Ngog for £6 million to raise funds for their transfers.

The Frenchman has largely been used as a relatively inexperienced backup to fellow forward Fernando Torres, as the Merseyside club have sometimes been found wanting in the attacking third of the pitch following the departure of Robbie Keane in 2009.

Former boss Rafael Benitez used the former Paris Saint-Germain forward sparingly during his reign at Anfield, and The Mirror reports that the squad overhaul under new boss Roy Hodgson could see the 21-year-old leaving the club.

West Bromwich Albion, Newcastle United and PSV Eindhoven have in the past been linked with moves for the young hitman.

4-5-1 is not just last season
think since Torres arrive it has been like that
possible reason is to accomodate laoya leiva in central midfield and also dirty kite on right wing

Wilson signs: First interview

Danny Wilson today signed a three-year contract at Liverpool after passing a medical.

The 18-year-old arrives from Glasgow Rangers, where he won the SFA and Football Writers' Young Player of the Year last season.

Shortly after putting pen to paper, the Scot arrived at the LFC TV studios for his first interview.

He told us: "It's a great feeling to sign for Liverpool. Wherever you go everyone knows Liverpool FC and I am just very happy to be here.

"This is a massive challenge for me. This is one of the best leagues in the world and I will be playing for one of the biggest teams in the world.

"Coming here from Scotland, people may say I might not be ready for this, but that is a challenge I want to put on myself and that's the reason I came here.

"Everyone knows about the history of this football club with 18 league titles.

"It wasn't a difficult decision to come here as Liverpool are not a team who come in for you every day, so I can't wait to get started.

"There were other clubs interested in me who are in the Champions League, but once Liverpool came in for me there was only one team I wanted to go to."

oh, u talking about LE boss
:bsmilie:

that one hor, now want to claim abit of credit and 落井下石ma

i guess because owen didnt have a good strike partner, though he enjoyed playing together with Herskey, I guess we were missing good wingers especially after departure of Macca
the so-called wingers, attacking midfield or forwards like diouf, smicer, berger, baros, etc were either blowing hot and cold or constantly plague by injuries...

gone liao.

And Milan gets No.11. Wonder who's our new signing that will be wearing the No.7?

expectations too high for number 7, no one dares to wear

wa, no.10... then who don no.7 nw?!
Milan will wear no.10...i think Joe will wear no.7...the number on the jerseys we all saw was training kits...players use different numbers during training...

tat no.7 is reserved for me la.

i wear liao, shirt too small, tear here n there, and i roll across the pitch, covering every blade of grass and mowing down the opposition players so that our boys can tap into an empty net.

swee, every game is 'man of the match'. kekekeke
sure bro cc...hope to see u play football someday...:bsmilie:

I love this!

and I still strongly believed its GH's team that won the CL...RB took the credits.
gh's team managed by rb...

I hope the owners will not mess around now.....
