Chelsea winger Yossi Benayoun: The only reason I left Liverpool was Rafael Benitez

Israeli star reveals the Spaniard tried to break him like he did to Riera and Alonso

Woah.... quite a lot came from Yossi... hopefully other players will choose to move on with football and stay with LFC rather than the whole thing becoming ex-manager vs ex-players.... Wonder what caused all these problems when we were about to give the EPL a good run and ended up in a mess....

Well, as long as he left saying only bad things about the ex-manager and not the club, I'm glad then. At least its not the name of the club he was bringing down and he had nothing but respect for the club.

I think the fans appreciate a good, committed and hardworking player and we all wanted to see more of him but .... (ok, enuff said)

Through all that treatment by rafa, he didnt even make public his displeasure through all that suffering, for that, he deserves an ovation when he returns to Anfield

SCHARNER SET FOR ANFIELD TALKS

Posted 11/07/10 17:40

Paul Scharner is set for talks with Liverpool next week over a possible free transfer to Merseyside.

New Reds boss Roy Hodgson is thought to be an admirer of the versatile 30-year-old, who left Wigan after his contract expired at the end of last season.

Hodgson tried to sign the Austrian on three occasions when manager of Fulham, but failed in each attempt.

It was also thought that the 62-year-old was trying to secure his signature at Craven Cottage before moving to Anfield at the start of July.

Aston Villa and Sunderland are also rumoured to be interested in landing Scharner's signature, but Liverpool is believed to be his preferred destination.

If the deal is to be successful, Scharner could possibly fill the void left by defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano should the Argentine depart.

"Roy Hodgson and Paul Scharner - this is a special relationship," said Scharner's agent, Valentin Hobel.

"Hodgson thinks that Paul's strengths in midfield are better than his attributes in central defence.

"Liverpool would be a dream, of course, but we are in contact with several clubs. Because he is a free transfer, he can choose."
