Torres not indispensable - Atletico chief

Atletico Madrid supremo Miguel Angel Gil Marin is hoping star striker Fernando Torres will remain at the club, but insists that no player is indispensable.

Torres is being linked with a move to Champions League finalists Liverpool, with a transfer fee of around £25million being mooted for the 23-year-old Spain international.

Gil Marin, Atletico's major shareholder, wants to see Torres leading Atletico's attack again next season, but is adamant that the striker is not irreplaceable.

'Nobody is indispensable. We are trying to create a competitive team and no player by himself, very good though he is, is able to make a team achieve its aims,' Gil Marin said on Punto Radio.

'Atletico are building a team that does not revolve around Fernando Torres but around the team as a whole.

'I would delighted if Fernando was to continue here, but the future is going to be decided by Fernando himself.

'We have spoken to him and told him we would like him to stay.

'It is normal that he has doubts. It is normal that the offers and everything surrounding them has made him think.

'Torres knows that Atletico want him and if Fernando wants to continue at Atletico, he is going to continue.'

Gil Marin also revealed they were hoping to bring in Villarreal's former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan to boost the Rojiblancos' firepower - whether Torres stays or not.

'The operation which we are trying to close is that of Forlan, who we are looking at to provide support to Fernando, as well as a possible alternative.'

Meanwhile, Atletico have reached an agreement with Olympiakos to sell Argentine winger Luciano Galletti.

The 26-year-old international, who joined Atletico from Real Zaragoza in 2005, is reported by Spanish media to be moving for a fee of around 2.3 million euros. He had a contract until 2008.

Although the parties were in agreement, Atletico said his former club Zaragoza still had to approve the arrangement.

Galletti was a regular starter for Atletico last season, scoring four league goals, but had never lived up to expectations.

MoneyLai goin to chelski?

Chelsea in £12million bid for MoneyLai?

Chelsea have made a £12million bid for Lyon winger Florent Malouda, according to reports in France.

The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for the player in recent weeks and appear to have made their interest in the France international official.

Coach Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the 27-year-old and Malouda has already stated his desire to leave Stade Gerland.

A deal to bring the player to Stamford Bridge now looks increasingly likely, although Chelsea's offer is still below Lyon's valuation.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth technical director Avram Grant is set to join the club on July 1, although Chelsea refused to comment on his impending arrival.

The former Israel manager is friends with Chelsea's billionaire owner Roman Abramovich and speculation about Grant's arrival sparked a row between Mourinho and the club's owner back in January.

But the differences have been resolved and Grant is expected to be given a wide-ranging role as director of football.

Negotiations with Chelsea are alleged to have started, although no contract has been signed as yet.

A Chelsea spokesman said: ``Avram Grant is an employee of another football club and, as such, we will not comment.''

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has made it clear he would not stand in Grant's way and the Israeli is expected to agree a contract with the Blues by the end of the month.
