Mauro Pederzoli, Liverpool's Italian agent has admitted that talks between Juventus and Liverpool took place earlier this summer for striker David Trezeguet.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is believed to be on the lookout for a big name striker to help the club challenge the premiership next season and has been linked with the likes of Samuel Eto'o, David Villa and Thierry Henry.

Now Pederzoli has confirmed that Benitez made a move for David Trezeguet, however Juventus wanted Xabi Alonso as part of the deal.

Young Fowler aiming to make name for himself

MERE weeks after one Fowler’s Mersey reign comes to an end, another’s is getting under way.

When Robbie Fowler was 16, those in the know were talking about the promise of a bright future for the soon-to-be Liverpool star.

Also 16, the same is now being said of Anthony Fowler, only this talented teenager has the world at his fists rather than feet.

Just as Robbie burst onto the scene at Anfield to take on all before him, Anthony is following a similar path at the Golden Gloves ABC in the Dingle, just a stone’s throw away from where the two cousins grew up.

EPL Trio Gets Socceroos Call

Mark Viduka, Tim Cahill and Harry Kewell have been included in Graham Arnold's 23-man squad for Australia's maiden Asian Cup challenge.

Arnold had admitted to "some fears" that Viduka, who completed a move from Middlesbrough to local rivals Newcastle on Wednesday, would pull out of the tournament, while Cahill and Kewell have been battling injuries for the majority of the domestic season.

Everton midfielder Cahill will not be risked in a warm-up match in Singapore on June 30, but will figure in the opening game of the campaign against Oman on July 8.

Sivasspor's Michael Petkovic has won the battle for the third goalkeeper's berth behind Middlesbrough duo Mark Schwarzer and Brad Jones, while new Celtic striker Scott McDonald has been left out of the squad.

West Ham defender Lucas Neill, Leicester's Patrick Kisnorbo and Blackburn midfielder Brett Emerton have also been included.

Former Newcastle defender Craig Moore had asked to be excused by Arnold.

Australia have been drawn in Group A of the tournament and will also face co-hosts Thailand and Iraq.

Look like kewell will play some parts against SINGAPORE TEAM ON 30th JUNE
