hey guys
been taking some night landscape shots.
heres what i face.
cant seem to manual focus on live view cos image is too dark.
ok the scene was very dark theres only some passage way light behind me.
front scene was dark eg. scene of a reservoir not even moon light was around.
tried adjusting iso ,aps , slower shutter speed ,zoom in zoom out, digital zoom, but all doesnt seem to brighten up the scene on liveview. just pitch black on the lcd and the view finder.

however on my gf G10 the live view werks fine.
the more i lower down the shutter speed the brighter the scene on the lcd.
easier to focus.but seems like no responding on my 500d.seems like its going blind or sumtin.

is there some prob with my 500d live view?
or its normal for dslr.
hellppp me all 500d master n chifu of night photography..
thanks.

oh i think i forgot to mention liveview has its own preset shutter speed. kinda like a vid camera? hehe. ur g10 on the other had is a compact. and as we all know compact works like a vid camera. dslrs kinda dun

what u can do is focus on the brighter areas. using ur liveview, u shld be able to move a small rectangle on ur lifeview screen correct?

now use that box to adjust where u wanna zoom in. if i not wrong ur zoom button for live view is beside ur shutter. below. around there. u shld see it urself.

then just zoom. focus manually

done and fire away.

if all else fails. just estimate. since ur using small aperture, a bit out of focus will still seem relatively sharp.

live view has only just been introduced since last year, don't expect its level of technology to reach the live view of compact cam yet.

thanks guys for the usefull inputs,
still got lots to learn in dslr.
its a totaly different thingy compare to point n shoot..
so now i noe its the user problem again hehe..
thanks again guys.
