Can anyone post a picture of Panasonic 14-42 PZ with the em5? Pls share your findings with this combo

Are u referring to the Panasonic 14-42 X lens? I dont have a pic of this combo at the moment but it works very well with the EM5. I dont have any blurry issues with this lens, not even with my previous EPL1. You will get the focal length reading with this lens on your display. It is IMO the sharpest kit lens in the market at this moment. It is sharp even wide open, with good colours and contrast. U can see a visible difference (without pixel peeping) when u compare it to other zoom lenses like the Olympus 12-50mm, Olympus 14-150mm, etc. U can have this combo hanging on your neck without the typical front heavy issue with other zoom lenses. Its VERY very small and light. AF is extremely quick as well.

Yes, some claim this lens is soft. Maybe depends on your copy Btw do u use the IBIS or power OIS? Which is better?

How to use power OIS on a Oly body??? U can only use IBIS. I dont see a reason why u will need to use power OIS since the OMD EM5 5 axis stabilisation is very very good. I can even get a reasonably sharp shot with a hand held 1/2 sec shutter speed.

The softness is due to the shutter of some cameras affecting the lens. Otherwise, this lens is actually very sharp, go check out its MTF chart. I dont think u will see any zoom lens capable of matching it, not even the renowned Panasonic 14-45 OIS lens.

I thpught ypu can disable the iBiS and go for OIS cos i heard from previous reviews that lens IS is better than Body IS. Just asking

In my opinion, the 5 axis IBIS in the OM-D EM-5 is light years ahead of Panasonic's OIS.

U cannot use the lens OIS on an Olympus body unless there is an external OIS switch on the lens like the Panasonic 14-45mm OIS lens. Typically it was mentioned that OIS is better than IBIS because Olympus IBIS could not provide video stabilisation, neither could it provide framing stabilisation. Things have changed with OMDs IBIS which is IMO even better than OIS.

I have the PZ14-42 and the 14-45. The 14-45 is sharper but the 14-42 is much more compact.

Not for mine. I have used the 14-45mm for 2 years and i have replaced it with the 14-42 X lens. There's one more aspect of the 14-42 X lens which gives it an advantage over the 14-45, thats contrast and flare resistant. The 14-45 IMO is not quite as resistant to flaring and has more CA.

I go for 25mm F1.4 and 45mm F1.8 which are my fort of shooting street photography.

My Dark Knight OMD EM5 with following lens;
1) 12-50mm from OMD EM5 Kit (Good enough for travelling overseas and locally and random shots on almost anything anytime)
2) M.Zuiko 12mm F2 (Vertical Portrait with dreamy bokeh, night shoot of building and group photography)
3) Panasonic Leica 25mm F1.4 (My all-time favourite lens)
4) M.Zuiko 45mm F1.8 (My No.2 all-time favourite lens)
5) M.Zuiko 9-18mm (Best Bird View shots)
6) M.Zuiko 75mm F1.8 (Very sharper lens for capturing action in theatre, street photography and dreamy round bokeh)
7) Panasonic 100-300mm (Good enough for bird-watching and "zoo"-watching)

i guess olympus sharp prime m4/3 lens, there are only 3 - 12/f2, 45/f1.8 and 75/f1.8 ....

Really wish olympus would make a sharp zoom lens like the panny 12-35 ..... an Olympus 12-60 f2.8, but without the OIS would be good. Dont want to pay for OIS in panny's 12-35 as it would not be used at all. I believe if Panny made the 12-35 without OIS, it would cost at least $200-300 less.

This logic is silly. Given how much the Panasonic 7-14 cost, what makes you think an Olympus high end zoom would cost less? As it is, the 14-42 kit lens from both companies are equal in price!

It will not happen in the near future. Olympus already decided not to make a high-end constant aperture zoom when it launched the 12-50 f/3.5-6.3 with the E-M5. Panasonic is not about to cannibalize on its new 12-35 f/2.8 any time soon, either. Not to forget, a 12-60 f/2.8 (or even f/4) would be huge and heavy, totally nullifying the size and weight advantages of m4/3.

Deducing from the relative prices of 24-70 f/2.8 and 24-120 f/4, a 12-60 f/4 would cost roughly 75% of the 12-35 f/2.8, which is about $1100 (street).

what lens can be used with MMF-3 adapter and still have AF, can nikon DX/FX, canon, Tamrom lenses be used? thank you

- Pany 25mm f1.4
- Oly 45mm f1.8
- Samyang 7.5mm f3.5
- Oly 12-50 kit lens (I would have not gotten this if I found the camera body only)

I have a line up of Canon EF lenses but I find it's pointless to mount to the OM-D. You defeat the purpose of having the small camera and they all become manual focus only. Perhaps for shooting the moon then maybe I'll get an adapter.

Oh I also have an Canon FD 50mm f1.4

Starting out my adventure with my gf5 and I just gotten my pany 20mm f1.7 and the pany x kit lens 14-42mm zoom.

Anyone using pentax 110 lens with the m43? :bsmilie:
