[limwl27] APWP 2014 - Between cityscape and kids

sad only for A7s.

Yes, it's the same (or similar). I never got to try out as EM1 still don't have it when I switched so I cannot be sure.

For the A7S app, you set the exposure to correctly capture the scene first, i.e. 8s f8 ISO400 for my case. When you press the shutter, it'll be like bulb mode until the 8s when the correctly exposed scene will show up on the. After that, it will continue to run to get the trails (which will show in almost realtime) and the scene will not be overexposed. Once you feel it's enough, just press the shutter again to stop and it can be saved as RAW as in my photo above.

The best way to show the unique bokeh is to "focus" on the bokeh :p

5 Nov 2014 (Wed) - Trying QX1
Sony A7S on Contax Zeiss 85mm f1.4 @ 1/100 / f1.4 / ISO125

I started to use this lens more once I sold my Rokkor 58mm f1.2. Of the 2, I always prefer this due to the more modern Zeiss type of rendering compared to the Rokkor and the special bokeh at f2 onwards. My friend wanted to test the QX1 at Sony 313 so I took the chance to photograph him - I'm his model in this pic too :p

I was also comparing this to the SAL85F14Z which is also a Planar design. The rendering looks very similar but it lacks the contrast of the Sony one. After adjusting the black and white points in PP, the photos are hard to tell apart.

A very nice lens. At MFD it's razor thin but very sharp at portrait distances. The bokeh is very very good btu can be distracting if background is busy with multiple spot lights.

Sony A7S on FE 24-70mm f4 @ 26mm / 1/60 / f8 / ISO1000

I am trying to make this look symmetrical. I had to tilt it up a bit to get the chandelier in so the tree looks a bit falling backwards.Generally, I find this versatile lens sharp and good. It's my go-to lens for most photoshoots.

9 Nov 2014 (Sun) - Man Yue shot
Sony A7S on VC 21mm f4 @ 26mm / 1/60 / f4 / ISO250

I chose to use the VC21 as it's the only wide lens with low distortion in my possession. Come to think of it, the FE 24-70mm could work too. There are some colour shift at the corners which I think is due to the lens. It should be correctable in PP.

The challenge in this shot is to make sure my daugther didn't cry when my wife leave here there. Took a few attempts and this is one of the better ones. My wife didn't have time to hold a reflector on the other side so I had to adjust the shadows in PP.

11 Nov 2014 (Tue) - Bishan blue hour test shot
Sony A7S on FE 16-35mm f4 @ 16mm / 15s / f11 / ISO100

Just got this freshly launched lens and it sure lightened up my day. I find the sharpness pretty good at 16mm f4 and very good at f8. Gonna test out this lens more particularly at the "tele" range since it has a lot of good reviews at the wide end.

Oh, another good thing is it works pretty well with the 83mm Haida filter holder if I turn it horizontally. There is some vignetting but it's correctable in PP. I am pretty surprised as the 83mm holder did not work for the VC12 which is 67mm diameter (compared this 72mm).

Sony A7S on FE 16-35mm f4 @ 35mm / 30s / f8 / ISO100

After putting my daughter to sleep, I saw a nice moon and took this pic. I rested my camera on the windows grill and used my handle to hold it lightly so it doesn't fall off. Glad that it turns out sharp. I was contemplating whether to turn this into B&W but decided to keep it in colour.

13 Nov 2014 (Thu) - Rainbow after the rain
Sony A7S on FE 16-35mm f4 @ 16mm / 1/30 / f8 / ISO100

Saw this rainbow while fetching my daughter back from school. Took a quick snap and had to decrease the exposure by about 1 stop in PP to make the rainbow more obvious.

Another dinner shot while handling kids. I got everybody down to the 2nd level to take this :p I was lucky that the crowd cleared at my side too. For this shot, I decide to try a 1/30 shot and it's pretty good thanks to the OSS.

She seems to sleep better on her tummy. <3 the rendering of this lens.

25 Nov 2014 (Tue) - X'mas deco at Centrepoint
Sony A7S on FE 16-35mm f4 @ 16mm / 18s / f8 / ISO100 / Light Trail app

Finally, i have some off time in the evenings to take pics of X'mas deco. But Centrepoint decide to not cooperate with me and turn on only partial of their X'mas lights :(

I took this using the Light Trail app to capture the light trails. The actual time for exposure is only about 4-5s on f8 but I left it on till 18s to get more trails. I am using f8 to get bigger and more obvious tails too. Overall, it's a very good app except it's a bit slow when accessing the menu from the live view mode and any moving object above a certain light threshold will be recorded as trails. The latter caused the hanging X'mas lights to look blurry.
