Sometimes finding the right item is important. If you buy the wrong item, it will cause disastrous results and waste of $$$. It seems there are some people have lack of such knowledge, which I am one of them. :embrass:

Hi guys

Do you have a good recommendation for replacing the plastic stand (u shape thingy) that comes with speedlites? I am using this to mount the speedlite onto the lightstand.

Cheers

You may like to get a cold mount as a replacement for the platic mount. This cold mount is shaped like a hotshoe mount for speedlites. Approach cathay photo or ruby for the item. :)

I own a 5001B (also known as 001B previously if I am not wrong). And I am curious how different are these two lightstands. Is 1051BAC better? I compared the specs and I am clueless :(

Thanks.

5001B is a nano stand. 1051BAC is a mini compact stand. Both are equal in weight but different in height. The weight carry by 5001B has the advantage. 1051BACs are able to stack together with the same lightstands for compact keeping.

Just asking... when mounting flash on lightstand, with or without air cushion will be better?

Air cushion always allows you to release the knobs with just one hand, without worrying your flash/strobe will come crashing down towards the next section.

I use those leather wraparound straps for my dslr, so essentially i have only one hand free.

Not forgetting the pinching of your hand when it lands! Ouch!

Ok, here is a related question... Where do u get good lightstand bags?

Good question.:bsmilie:

There are few places of recommendation. OP at SLS offers a good range of KATA tripod and lightstand bags. Most of them are padded to protect the equipments. The length of the bag most probably 36inch and above. But the items are expensive.

Another bag will be Jinbei lightstand bag. Non padded and cheap. It have 3 slots that can hold 6 lightstands. I like this bag because it can act as a ground mat when emptied. I can lay on top to do low angle shots. You can purchase from CS bro, afiend.

Others you have to order overseas. I currently using a brand call Kinesis. The bag shaped like a guitar bag, which the lower area are bigger. This helps to put bigger tripod heads. There is a slot for umbrellas as well.

A new way to carry tripod and lightstands

just wondering abt the 420B, its a combi boom stand meaning the boom portion can be retracted into the main shaft? the manfrotto website doesn't state clearly..

Yes. There is a video in youtube that demonstrate the use of 420B. Just search "manfrotto 420B". I am ordering this from a friend, but currently out of stock.

Are there any light stand bags that can be slung over the shoulder? I was keen on the tagotech one but it doesn't appear to be able to held this way. Does anyone have one and can you confirm this?

There are actually several cheaper brands around (in mass order section). Any users care to share their experience with them? Guess the material will not be aluminum.

i dont see a need for camera flash. strobes definitely yes whenever possible to avoid injury.

i am using a safrotto tripod bag that i bought from OP last year. the strap is not comfortable but it works for all lightstand lengths and it can hold up to 4 big ones easily.

I am using Kinesis which is quite comfortable on shoulder. BTW, it can be convertered to a backpack if you attached a hardness to it.
