Hi friends! Anyone care to share their experience with using Lightsphere to extend their flash range? Is it even half decent? Or is it something that's "have like don't have"? :D

I dun think lightsphere is a flash extender... it cuts down light instead of extending... in theory...

I think if you remove the cap, it might extend.

I made a home made light sphere. Results are not too bad. It tends diffuse the light from the flash so you don't get harsh shadows as you would get from direct flash.

I think I was led to believe that after reading this article some time ago:

"When photographing subjects at great distances, take the top off and point the Lightsphere directly at your subject. It will extend your flash's range by directing more light forward. Flash extenders like the Better Beamer will do a better job of focusing the light from your flash, but they often cause pictures to appear harsh and the fresnel lenses used by such products can cause fires if not used properly."

Any with a LS can do some tests? :D

It is misleading.

Don't need to test.

Ok, trust u bro. :)

If you need to increase the range of you flash.
- make the beam narrower, set you zoom angle of your flash to tele.
- get a fresnel lens flash extender.

shooting direct using LS without the Dome, the LS will not direct the light toward center effectively, cos the LS is a translucent material. But without the Dome, flash uses less power, hence it may mistaken by it can make flash can project longer range.

you can't make the light soft and increase the range at the same time.

there's a Flash Extender around that really 'extends' ur flashgun's normal flash range. widely used by birding fotographers.

LightSphere is mainly a flash diffuser. power up!!!!

modify ur LightSphere to allow more light to be thrown forward! super power up!!

LightSphere is favoured by a lot of event photographers but a pity not all will readily share their secrets and accessories. ;)
