if..'IF' u go for premium version with the colour engine......it a hell lot of a difference..too bad rawshooter cease:cry:
Now the rawshooter team is serving LR, so hopeful they can can come out with some patch that can improve the performance a bit better.

Is there any setting that can tweak the LR perform faster?

Currently using Athlon 64 3000+ with 2 Gbytes RAM. But I am facing lag every time I try to move a cursor or for it effect to show, like 1/3 to 1/2 seconds lag like that. When using RSE last time it was much faster...:(

It's very annoying when need to process a lot of photos

I find that LR requires at least a Core 2 Duo to perform decently, hopefully the next version will speed up a bit.

sadly the color engine is a third party add-on...the original team dun have anything to do with it..

well, i'm using a 6300 and its still rather slow at times, think need to up my ram.

Try to reduce the preview size, that might help with the speed.
Go Preferences/File Management...

i'm not a computer guru, but i think LR is a memory eater.

even my almost new desktop running dual core and 4gig ram, when i preview the images in loupe view, it takes sometime to 'load'.:embrass:

but the speed is acceptable lah.i can imagine running on a older pc though...i guess that's what deadpoet is experiencing.:dunno:

My PC not that slow ... P4 HT 3.2, 4 GB DDR2 667 mHz RAM, plenty of HDD space. If LR cannot run efficiently on this, there is something very wrong with the design of the software.

I was one of the beta users of lightroom through all of its beta iterations. The 100% loupe view still takes time to load, but once loaded, it's quite fast to drag around.

A good gauge is to play with the sliders in the "Develop" module, the response should be rendered instantaneously. If there's a lag, then it means either your memory is not enough, or the software code has a memory leak and should be reported back to Adobe.

My problem is simply speed, or the lack thereof.

Just scrolling between images takes forever.

i just OC my 6300 to 3.2 ghz... its very OCable... ;) can run faster than quad core 6800 now...

Had a new Dell 9200 computer with 2GB RAM on Windows Vista.
Works much faster than my previous 3.5 years old computer. But still not as fast as i expect it to be. Maybe I should up the RAM to 4GB.

Also heard from many that CS2 got some problem with Windows Vista. So I just installed Photoshop Element 5 to work with Lightroom for sharpening and reducing the file size for webdisplay. That's my workflow. But do u guys use the Web module to export picture for web display? Or do u export the picture from Lightroom?

Increased the RAM from 2GB to 4GB.

Lightroom is now so much faster!! For example, once image is rendered at 100%, I can drag around the image with no lag at all!

i dont use the web module of LR since i dont know how to get it to work with pbase...
but i export the picture directly in reduced size from LR... work well....

On Adobe website, when I searched for it, it did say Lightroom is capable of doing lens distortion correction, but on the online guide/demos I couldn't find any that shows that.

Could some of you that are currently using Lightroom comment or feedback if Lightroom is able to do lens correction? and if so equally the ease of use as in CS2 ?

the only "lense corrections" i know of in LR are corrections of chromatic aberations and vignetting, there is not tool to correct lens distortions such as barreling.

Can i ask a silly question.

Is this Lightroom only used for RAW photos. I usually dont shoot in RAW but just normal format (I think JPEG ?). Will it stilll work ?

Its wok well with JPEG as well. And I actually confused bout people complaning the speed.
I am using dual core E4300 2 gig ram. Everything very smooth ( no delay).
Something else cause the speed issue ?

LR does the following:
> LR can handle: RAW, jpeg, tiff, psd and dng files
> photos are contained in database: you can assigne keywords and search for them or for metadata
> LR allows you to do exposure adjustments for your photos (exposure, contrast, brightness, histogram, colour, greyscale etc etc)
> some cosmetic corrections such as red eye and dust removal and limited cloning / healing
> RAW converter
> slide show
> you can print from there and produce your web pages from there

after using LR for sometime, i realised it is a very very good software for SORTING your pics, adjusting WB,exposure, colors blah... for each series of pics.that is, if you shoot raw.

after the sorting and adjustments, you'll STILL need photoshop CS2/3 to do any PS you want to do.
LR will never be able to replace CS, but i would say LR is a GOOD software to include in your workflow.it's much better than Adobe bridge.

well said girl.... however its not only for RAW.... WB, exposure etc works just as well on jpeg....
