Lighting workshop?

Hi... i noticed a thread on lighting tutorial posted a yr ago...
wondering is there any lighting workshops that provide practicals?... or anyone who can tutor or guide us during the set?

bcos i feel that lighting is important in video-making... and my sch doesn't have modules on lighting.
so me and my friends self study but no matter how much i read up on lighting techniques(online and books), it seem difficult to create that kind of mood/effects.

My friend work at a production house and they currently having a Proffesional Lighting and Grip course. the course is subsidised by MDA.
Its basically course where you can learn all about lighting and filming equipment. you will get a recognised ceritificate upon graduation too.
Maybe you can try to call 6742-2760 for more info on this course.
Heard they starting on next saturday 5th of april.

can no problem ! We rent all the necessary lighting equipment , can make all the classes 2days covering indoor and outdoor lighting , basic lighting , high key lighting , low key key lighting and etc lah but need loadsa participant so can cover cost of lighting equipment and basic notes

I wouldn't mind lending the use of my lights if I get a chance to learn from others. I've only got a 230W Lowel Pro, 150W Dedo and 2 800W Lowel Totas. I suppose we'll probably need a few fresnel and Blondies or even HMIs.

Yeah sure! will be glad if intrested participants bringing their own lights so we only rent a few kino hmi's and fresnel lights ! i think it's gonna give you what books don't teach which is practical! Do get some trace frames (3x3, 4x4 and 6x6), high rollers with butterfly, 4x4 reflectors, polyfoams, gaffer grips, superclamps, magic-arms, cutters, nets, silks, gel set, c-stands and....sand-bags! Actually just rent a lighting/grip truck and you would get most of these. of course if u are intending to teach outdoor lighting with HMI you would probably need a couple of 4k HMI and daisy chain some gennys to power them...that you would have to order separately.

Unfortunately, the only lights i got are studio flashes haha, whihc don't quite fit the bill here. I dont mind contributing to costs though, but need to see how much $$ we are talking abt

wah might as well i do a shoot on that day, i'm only helping out the mass i'm not 4 profit and most of the forumers wanna learn lighting , if you dun get basics rite even you throw in moscow light , 10 bank kino's but your basic lighting is koyak no point , we learn to work wif available equipments if there is extra it is a bonus thou ! i'm trying to find a suitable place to conduct this course perhaps a big bungalow home so we can light the whole house !

Hi Faiz. Agree with you, let's start with the basics first and keep it practical. I've just come back from overseas and don't mind helping with the arrangements once I have got over my jetlag.

Hi, I believe you have misread me.

I was suggesting having some basic grip equipment as they are equally as essential in lighting as the the lights themselves. So if there are sufficient people interested in attending the lesson, then perhaps splitting the cost of the lighting/grip truck rental makes sense as you would have a complete basic lighting package (and grip equipment).

And I din think having the Blanket Lite is going to more useful than the usual 4ft 4banks ones, at least for your purposes. My mention of the 4k hmi perhaps seems out of place. I was just suggesting my usual way of keying my subject after I fly my butterfly.

Anyway,yeah, so like you said, you guys will make do with whatever you can lay hands on. If there's extra resources, consider what I said (about the grip truck, not the 4k). In the mean time, good luck and have fun!

Ranges from 500 to 550. So if u have 20 participants, it's about 25 bucks each. Good thing about the truck is you get a range of lights from HMI's to Kinos to tungsten units from 2k all the way down to dedo lights. Of course included are all the other extra stuff like apple boxes, c-stands, grip equipment, autopole, trace frames etc etc. With the equipment, it'd allow flexibility in demonstrating different basic lighting situations.

Of course, if the lesson is going to be just the very basic key, fill, back, rim, eye lighting, then perhaps there's no need to spend the extra money.

yeah thanks 4 the info dude btw we need the venue i mean a proper 1 perhaps a govt chalet at changi or old colonial house where we can light everything up and also we need extra's to re enact everything i cn't get the lads to do extra's too... hmm... 1 day mite not be enuff perhaps 2 days over the weekend will be betta , need drinks and light refreshments dun wanna keep participants hungry....
