Hi, can u post a photo of the umbrella online? Coz i curious, how translucent is translucent?

Also, if it's outdoor, will flash actually play a big part in creating lighting effects?

translucent umbrella can be use as bounce or shoot thru, white umbrella (opaque) only use for bounce only.
flash can be use as fill or main light depends on what effect you want achieve.

Sorry for late reply, just got back.

Answers to some queries,

As for the time and date of the outing it starts 18 july 2010, Sunday morning, 8am at Cityhall Mrt Macdonalds to about 11am.

Later, I will be at Tiong Bahru Plaza ( 1pm to 6pm ) to shoot some Lolita dress contestants.
Another thing, I do not know these lolita people and I am just asking their permission on that day itself to shoot their portraits on an adhoc basis.

I am not charging people any sort of money to learn these techniques as these are just sharing sessions that encourages those willing to share their knowledge to their peers.
Anyone is welcome.

As for people with no flashes, I will be able to supply up to 3 flash triggers and flashes to let them try out their flashes off camera.

For people buying very old flashes ( 5 to 30 years and more ) to use, please do not put them on your camera even if the flash will fit on your camera. The flash voltages can be very high and may damage your camera. Buy remote radio triggers to put fire the flashes.

Just to share on Palangsi ~ it was a great honour for me to get to know this fine gentleman. He recently share selflessly with many, new and old to photography, in a shoot event. He had with him a wealth of knowledge and techniques and he is so ready to share them with anyone.

He observes and is sharp to suggest ways to improve one's shoot. I have benefitted and is still awe-strucked with the Doremon bag of goodies he carrys. It is (as-if) filled with everything one would ever need for a photoshoot. It is very interesting to see what's in the bag, alone.
