Lighting Adjustment in LIVE Concert

Hi,

While shooting a Concert will you Adjust the lighting according your shooting needs or Video Recording must follow the setting lighting had done?
 

You do not have much choice on lighting when shooting a LIVE concert. You got to do all adjustments on Camera or rarely in post... The key is to get the WB right. Set whitebalance to Day and that will do for most instances.
 

Lock all settings to manual and you should be good to go.
Depending on type of stage lightings, I would lock WB to either daylight to tungsten.
If a lot of unfiltered Par cans, I'd use tungsten WB. If I see lots of Strobos and other moving lights, I'd prefer to set to daylight WB.

I'd lock all all 3 cams on same settings in the event of multicam live coverage.
Sometimes exposure have to be compromised when stage lights go full blast, but that's when the difference of good and lousy video cams sets in. Good cams have very good dynamic tolerence so over exposures are still pretty forgivable.

How would set up for live coverage audio recording from audio mixers use line in to camera?
The MC speaking audio it good but what the perform start with music the audio get clip.:dunno:
 

For audio, we do not feed cameras with audio signal, everything goes thru our live mixing console.
We use the live mix from the FOH mixer.....so if it clips, it's the fault of the audio engineer. :bsmilie:

But if we should require our own mic setup, I will normally use an stereo shotgun pointed to the main stage sound reinforcement speakers or the line array. :thumbsup:

We have also covered jazz recordings using our own microphone setups and dedicated audio engineer just to do the audio mix...
I'm also a trained audio engineer so my advise for videographers is not to do everything on your own....if location venue already have audio guy, just ask the audio guy for a feed....provide your own cables though....
For safety, use 1ch with your shotgun mic or cam mic, and ch2 with the live mixer feed....so that you can save your butt if the audio guy screws up. :thumbsup:

Oh yes...rehearsal all going well....but what come to live...the audio guy screws us videographers all right ...:angry:
 

No choice when you meet with inexperienced audio guys.
Most of the time FOH mix will sound very different from recording mix....you need to tell the engineer or audio tech to give you a separate mix if he have spare aux/bus/channels.

I always personally monitor my incoming audio mix during rehearsals whenever possible, and I will feedback to the audio guy if the mix is not up to standard.....

but I must admit that not all scenarios, the audio guys are accomodating enough. :thumbsd:

usually i will inform the organiser early (prior to confirmation of hiring me) that I need a audio feed from the mixer and ask them to lay the audio cable to my cam position instead.. tho i may bring along my audio cable just in-case.. it will save you some trouble.. not all audio guy so helpful with your last min request. some will just tell u no more output for you.. well that case just inform the organiser.. if really no other choice then u have to use your gun mic but explain to organiser that you have requested but they never give, so u can't do any thing.:dunno:
