What is the cheapest single slide viewing lightbox will cost?

I just started into slides no I am absolutely have no idea on where to start but I guess a cheap lightbox and a 2x magnifier will d

Your location tells me that you are from England. Should our advice take that into consideration too?

Well, general advice would be a small daylight corrected lightbox and a Peak 8x loupe... anything cheaper than the above 2 won't be very good.

Yes. I am trying to figure out the cost of all item in Asia as well in UK. I doing so to see if I would be buying a high-end one here or to get a simple viewer and get the whole lightbox equipement when I am going back.... maybe around New year.

Singapore's light box or light panel aren't cheap! I made the mistake of selling my light panel (8x12") cheap in UK, thinking I can get a same-sized light panel cheaper here.

I WAS WRONG!

Jessops sells some great light panel. Light box is bulkier but cheaper and does the job. If your budget can stretch, go for the thinner and sleeker Jessops 8X12" light panel (include mains adaptor, batteries are not an option though) for 77.99 pounds.

Jessops 8x10" light box costs 37.99 pounds and 51.99 pounds with mains adaptor.

They sell smaller size light panel and box too.

I don't quite remember the price now in Singapore for similar-sized light panel/box. Probably, some CS members would like to share their experience....

Cathay Photo is currently selling a Cabin CL5000P 4x5" color corrected lightbox + Rodenstock 4x Aspheric Loupe for just $190. Very good deal.

A Kaiser 8x12" here will cost about S$200 odd. Not cheap compared to the Jessops you mentioned (are they corrected anyway?)

The biggest Cabin one ( > 8x12) costs like $500 odd. ouch.

Saw that but I find the 4x5" too small...

The Jessops price is correct, is the Kaiser one correct too? $200 odd means what? $250? $299? Is the Kaiser a light panel or a light box?

I thought I saw the price of a 8x12" light panel around $300 plus at CP??? I could be wrong as I am not good at remembering price or number...

I would rather tailor-made one! Not that difficult anyway....

Yeah, I am personally using a 5x7 Kaiser.

$250 or a bit less, can't remember. It's an AC operated 1" thick lightpanel. Oh, I don't mean whether the price is correct, I meant to ask whether they are colour corrected. :D

The $300 one is a GePe 8x12" Lightpanel. Custom make is not difficult, just tedious. And if you are serious, you should really be getting 5000K floursecent tubes, preferably flicker free ones.

Check out Fotoguide, they sell Kaiser "slimlite" Light Box 5 X 4" at $60 and 7 X 5" at $85.

Thanks everyone, I will be checking on the items and test them out.

I am still calculating my budget.

Sorry geoffery, need to borrow your thread. :D
Need advice from U guys, if I've a budget of around $250 - $300, what the ideal package or combination of lightbox/light panel & loupe can I get?

Thanks

dont mind at all.

I still have not figure out where to get the light box... in UK or Singapore....?????????:dunno:

just trying to get some feedback here....

can anyone really tell the diff btw a corrected and a non corrected lightbox.
speaking from personal experience, as long as the lighbox is bright enuf and uses decent flourecent tubes (not too warm or cold), the slides will look okay.
it seems that our eyes can adjust (or maybe not sensitive to the green cast of the flourecent tubes) to the colour cast pretty well and slight colour cast/variations may not be noticeble in a uncorrected box....

maybe its just my eyes..... what abt the rest?

when CKiang said 'Corrected", he meant to say "Daylight Balance" which is self-explanatory....

May I know what's the diff btwn Cabin CL5000P and Kaiser "slimlite" Light Box 5 X 4"?? how much is the cabin by itself normally without the CP deal? thanx!

Just different brands. :)

The Cabin CL5000P @ CP costs close to the bundle deal, the Rodenstock 4x Aspherical loupe costs more than the bundle, so go figure. Buy the package, then sell to someone who needs the other part.

i see i see....

ckiang: thanx for your reply, just one more qn: but specs wise, cabin and kaiser are about the same so how come so much diff in price? $60 for kaiser and 190 for cabin(assuming no package deal)?? is there something in quality that I missed?

I only have the 5x7" Kaiser and had the 4x5" Cabin CL5000P briefly, so I don't know what the 4x5" Kaiser is missing. The Kaiser is thicker than the Cabin though.
