andy johnson, anyone?

he converted some 11 penalties this season.

and, newcastle is bidding for Mike Owen! 20million quid!

i don't think he'll ever move to tyneside, let alone Newcastle, at least the current state the club's in! no disrespect to newcastle, but if he really move there, i think it'll be another downhill in his career, with the rot coming right from the moment he joined real. :bsmilie:

andy johnson? well if he comes cheap.. maybe?
Wayne Routledge? Niemi?

was hoping saints would stay up... sighz..
20m for mickey? that's crazy

Niemi will be a good signing for Pools... He's more consistent compared wih Dudek and he's no. 1 in Finland so Hyypia shd works well with him.

Andy Johnson, a bit overrated. I think for a mid-table team, he may do the job but not for us. I would prefer to sign Henri Camara... adds a bit of flair and unpredictablity to the side.

Oh ya... Peter Couch will be a good signing as well....Good height and good finishing (relatively for a big guy)..

henri camara is like a timebomb waiting to explode if he's not included in the first team week in out. look at wat he said of celtic and martin o'neill once he moved to the south coast. and during his time at southampton, he did say that southampton is a 'stepping stone' for his ambitions.

he's exciting and skilful but...

andy johnson come over to Liverpool at 5million quid then that'll be fine!

how cheap ? Aston Villa bid Baros for 3m. So I would consider Andy Johnson if he is as cheap as 1.5m.

For me...Andy Johnson just like Marcus Stewart and Kevin Philips few seasons ago. They all suprised everyone that they came from 1st Division Club to EPL and bang in lots of goal ..but for that 1 season.

They showed they were on form on that season. Form is temporary but class is permanent.

ie..Alan Shearer. He had never been the top scorer for last 5 seasons in EPL...but would u rate him lower than Kevin Philips and Marcus Stewart (both had been top scorer at least for 1 season in EPL in the last 5 years).

If Andy Johson (who is only a 2nd top goal scorer in EPL this season) is proven to be good enough to play big club..then why no big club had snapped up Marcus Stewart and Kevin Philips to play for them right after the season that they were the top goal scorer the season ? MU would have come in with 10m, rite ?

What about a midfielder who is both tenacious and skillful like Gerrard and Alonso whould be nice, someone in the mould of Steed Malbranque?

Ya man... Andy Johnson is not that great... Dun forget he scored 10 or is it 11 penalties in this season. Also, he played as a lone striker and all the games for Palace. If say Cisse, Baros or Morientes played all games for us as a lone striker and have 13 penalty opp, i think they will easily topped the 22 goals johnson scored.

If you read my earlier thread, i did mentioned that Malbranque is someone that i liked. However, Fulham is not a bad side and i dun see it happening now.

I see Johnson as 1-season goal scorer. Anyway...I have a feeling that he will playing in EPL next season...may be teams like chalrton...might want to buy him..

Yup... he will prob sign for Charlton (a fellow london club) or even Bolton (since they are in Uefa cup).

Rafa said: "I have worked hard on how my players approach games - especially away games in the Premiership where they have made me very disappointed. In the end, if you cannot change the mentality, you change the player."

I think there will be quite a few changes to liverpool squad next season.

Any guesses what kind of player Benitez is looking out for? He has already drawn up a list, and he has mentioned that the squad will be different from that of now.

A lot depends on who will stay. My guess is Smicer, Biscan, Vignal and Diouf definitely out. Diao shd be gone also (he's on loan to birmingham?)

Hamann, Kewell may go. Of Rafa's signing, prob Josemi and Pelle will be gone. Prob 1 or 2 youngsters who did not break thru will leave also.

Based on my above prediction, we will be left with:

Goal: Dudek, kirkland and Carson (maybe sign Niemi and sell Dudek?)
LB: Traore/Riise/Warnock (perhaps a new LB? esp Riise and Warnock seems to play better up front).
RB: Finnan (Most likely we will sign someone unless Josemi stays (wong_se will not like it))
CD: Carra/Hyypia, Potter, Whitbread (left with 2 experienced and 2 newbie, Rafa likely to get at least 1 experienced CD)
DM: Welsh/Gerrard (If Gerrard leave, we will be seriously short here... A backup thats more experience than Welsh is needed)
CM: Alonso/Gerrard/Garcia (again, not much cover here)
RM: Nunez/Garcia/Kewell/La Tallec (Shd be ok)
LM: Riise/Warnock/Kewell (Shd be ok)
ST: Morientes/Cisse/Baros/Mellor/Sinama (We shd be ok up front even if Baros leave)

Hence, likely buying list will be:
Goal: Niemi (to replace Dudek)
LB: Someone experienced? perhaps even Roberto Carlos who is unhappy!
RB: Finnan is ok, so maybe someone young. May not buy if Josemi still ard
CD: I will go for Zak Knight... somehow i think he's underrated. With his height, he will form a formidable tandem with Carra shd Hyypia eventually retired.
DM or CM: If baros stays, i will opt for Rosicky. Dortmund needs money and Rosicky could be the one to provide Baros with the telling thru balls... Essen from Lyon seems very highly rated as well.
LM/RM: Most likely will get one. So maybe Malbranque? Of course, SWP will be nice but out of our range.
ST: no need to buy under Owen wants to come back for less than 8m pounds!
