huh??afbug said:Actually, got 1 more.....Steve mecca! In their time, only he and Giggs can leave defenders sitting on their ass on the pitch.
Oh, United is upgrading Old Trafford. Additional 7900 at a cost of 45M pounds. 67,000 + 7900 = 76,000 seats. It will be the 2nd largest stadium behind Wembley (90,000) and the largest football club stadium in UK. The additional 7,900 seats could net the Red Devils £5million per season.
Cardiff's Millennium Stadium holds 72,000 people and Arsenal's new ground at Ashburton Grove is set to accommodate 60,000 supporters.
What about Liverpool? No news yet? All i know is they dun wanna share with Everton.

so competitive one ah??
even must compete on how big the grounds are??
Liverpool will have to include at least four home-grown players in their 25 man squad for European competition from 2006 following an announcement by UEFA today.
UEFA also intend to take the rule further by insisting on six homegrown players in European squads in 2007 and eight in 2008. Of the eight, at least four must be trained by the club's own academy and the other four trained within the same national association.
UEFA defines a club trained player as one who has been registered for a minimum of three seasons with the club between the ages of 15 and 21.
Europe's governing body also wants the plan to be introduced into domestic leagues, but that will need agreement from each individual national association. This will be voted on by the 52 member associations at a meeting in Estonia in April.

be nice to get even larger capacity but there comes a point when the cost of the stadium would be greater than your profit from the gates and it'd take years to break even. if you're like man u and have the spare cash, it's worth the wait but even the cost of this stadium is bleeding us badly.
maybe we can start selling prawn sandwiches like man u? :bsmilie:
nowadays, tv, merchandising and sponsorship are also major money spinners for major clubs. i just hope we can get a good sponsorship package for the coming seasons. any idea anyone taking over the carlsberg sponsorship?
afbug said:Dun look down on gate fees man. The additional 7900 seats can earn 5M pounds for Man Utd. It will be similar for Liverpool i guess. Arsenal's stadium cost them more than 300 plus million pounds. To competitive in Europe and England, a club like Liverpool needs a much larger stadium. Newcastle already got a 58+++ seater. But of cause, must be able to fill the seats consistantly, if not also no use.![]()
giddygoat said:i agree man, the money is very good.
and i don't doubt we can fill the seats but remember, we need to spend before we earn. imagine if liverpool builds a 300 million 80,000 capacity stadium. we maybe earn 10 mil more per match. taking into account the upkeep, etc, it'd probably be a couple of years before we cover the cost and start earning money. man united can afford to wait cos they have a hefty bank balance to sit on. but liverpool needs the money on the field. we need new players and better youths in order to stay competitive. already, this current stadium is bleeding us and left rafa with much less to spend. if we have no cash to spend for the next couple of years, i do fear for the team. remember leeds? they got too big too fast. if liverpool had the spare cash, i would hope they build a much larger stadium. but as of now, we can barely afford New Anfield
sigh....it's all about money these days. kinda sad.
giddygoat said:ha ha. now you reminded me. last time i play championship manager, i always schedule lots of home friendlies even in mid-season so i can earn money. then cos i can't spare my first team players, i'd dig up whoever who is not important and field them. got trashed by bayern once when i fielded 3 goalkeepers in defence
