you really don't get me do you? read the paragraph. i never said we need beauty football dude. i don't expect to see brazil on the field. what i expect to see is that when we counter, we counter with structure and flow. do you seriously believe that if we somehow managed to keep 38 cleans sheets by sitting back and soaking pressure for 90x38minutes (minus the 6x38 seconds we were countering), we can score a goal in every match just by hoofing it up? that takes more than skill. it takes luck. if that's all it takes, greece would be an all-conquering team. as is, they may be euro champs and they have a great defence but they will never be frontrunners because that kind of game needs so many things to go right before it works. heck, even the wind direction can affect it. maybe GH should hire a bomoh so that the wind will blow in the right direction and the pitch would be nice and dry.

Actually I think we need a good squad..... from pre season seems we overly dependant on gerrad.... I like what rafa says when he first came to liverpool...."with good players, we can win a few games, with a good team we can win many games"

:nono: :nono: :nono: the style we played did affect the matches we win. These two actually ties hand in hand. If we keep playing with GH aimless counter attack style, we will never win the EPL. That's why you can see we are always far behind from the EPL champ. But this may work for knock out competition, as it play lesser games n also some lousy games will not count if u able to turn it ard on the nxt one.
To able to win the EPL, we must play GOOD football, BORING football will never win the Leage Title!
Good style of football = higher chance of winning
Boring style of football = lesser chance of winning
Simple as that!

good football is to win the game.

boring football = not entertaining..but does not mean that boring football is not good.

besides of brazil. world cuo 5 times, italy and germany won the world cup 3 times.

look at how germany won the 3 times - to be frank, 3 times also boring football but effective.

look at the dutch during 70s with their introduction of "total football". Played extremely entertaining football..but lost to germany 1974 and argentina 1978.

yes...we need a good squad to win..everybody know that. and only good player can make up to a good squad.

but good player has a price on it.

u are right..the whole team is too much dependant on gerrard. that;s why i have been saying that the team is not well balanced. When gerrard was not playing...we could not score and performed well.....

and u dun expect gerrard to play every game and maintain such a form..

fully agree with you. like you pointed out, germany did win a lot of tourneys didn't they? and greece won the euro champ lately. but i am talking about the long term. the long ball style can win knockout tourneys, i had never disputed that. we may even win one league title one day if we keep playing like that. but i don't want just that(me very greedy one ). actually we need not argue lor cos you are talking about liverpool now and i am actually the dreamer talking about the liverpool i wanna see tomorrow.

in the long run, class tells. i don't have anything against counter attacking but the style we play must be able to consistently produce results. the problem with a percentage game is that once in a while, we drop points because things didn't go our way. i'm not saying that things will always go our way if we play like arsenal or valencia (look at them last season), but when you have the basics right and you know how to make use of the ball to open up a defence, you have a better chance to come through on top. teams close the door and defend like siao when arsenal or man utd plays them too, not just when we do. but we had always found it hard to break them down simply because we were too one dimensional and predictable. we actually did better against the big guns because we played like the smaller teams did against us! but it is not just about beating a few big teams is it? i just want to see the team learn to be tactically more flexible and more versatile in attack because that's the only way i feel we can secure our long term future. there is a time and place for long ball stuff but the time is not everytime and the place is not everywhere

i said i would be happier if we had won because we were the better team rather than because we bored a more competent team to death and then scored a goal while they were attending the wake. greedy like you said? definitely. but a better team will win more in the long run. and as long we we keep playing route one stuff with no proper build-up or direction, we would always be handicapped.

getting worried leh. no sign of anymore signings. i really wanna see a new CD and hopefully a new RW. i still believe we should not have let murphy go. he gives us more options even if he wasn't really an out-an-out winger. at least he passes better than garcia and takes better free kicks than xabi.
while i am raving, can i also bring up that i hope rafa had been able to work on our set-piece plays, both defensive and offensive? our weakness in both areas cost us badly last season.

Think abt it.... LIverpool is really kinda famous in the sense that we seem to be involved in some excellent (once in a lifetime matches)... kinda like destined to be famous!

There's the 2 tragedies which i should not talk abt, there's the 5-4 win in UEFA match, 3-3 comeback penalty win in the CL final... not forgeting the 4-3 win against newcastle.... i wonder if other teams have such experience... well... i know Man U won the CL is pretty late manner... but any other similar type of matches? I dun seems to recall many and usually they involve us...

Dun be so pessimistic... i for one think that Chelsea will prob not improve on last season. I can see a tight EPL race with 4 horses, Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool, prob in this order. Man U signed a very good player in Park... Arsenal has too much prob and with Veira gone and Cole is not in right frame of mind and Campbell injured, they prob will have a slow start. If Liverpool starts well and maintain some consistency, we can finish in top 3.
