so many chances but in reality, it's not our day.
blackburn 1 chance 1 goal. we've so many chances and friedel saved them all.
upset abt the result but the performance is pretty good.
Yah, if they didn't score, i think we could have wrapped up 3 points by end of 90min.
but don't you feel that we seem to lack that something extra? we had plenty of possession and had a few chances but that's partly becos blackburn was happy to sit back and counter.
When we went behind and blackburn packed their defence, it was a call to the lads to raise their game. They didn't. repeatedly crossing blindly into a blue and white wall of defenders looking for the odd red shirt is not what i'd expect from a team that was talking about challenging for honours in the near future. everytime our players got the ball, they passed around a couple of times, ran out of ideas near the final third, played a hopeful cross in the general direction of the penalty box or simply got closed down and lost the ball. or of course, just blast away from 30 yards, spectacular if you scored but not something you can always depend on. What happened to the bread and butter passing and moving, forwards creating space and midfielders runnning into them?
and i really thought the team should dare to take some risks. most teams would have pushed more players up, maybe move hyypia up as a big centre forward. Even watford dared to push shittu up when behind at anfield. with 5 min left, we could lose 2-0 or draw 1-1 (maybe even win?). i think if we have any ambitions, we need to take more risks and go out for the point(s). if we got countered and conceeded another, too bad, at least we tried. but if we don't take risks, we don't get anything. instead we stuck to a rigid 4-4-2 and there just wasn't enough runs into the box from midfield. This is not a team playing to win things.
Despite the result, the performance would have been a great one for most teams. but for a team wearing the red shirt of liverpool, i had hoped to see more heart and adventure from the lads, especially after falling behind. there just wasn't enough inspiration, just lots of hopeful perspiration. And simply no belief.
It's only my opinion, but the performance was not good enough if we hoped to do anything more than finish midtable. C'mon lads, if we finish less than 4th, next season could be disastrous financially.
