You could have used Tenso to ship it from Japan.. It costs only $40 to do so..

The reviews of this lens are showing that it is the equal of the 75mm but the price is higher because it is a more usable focal length, the aperture, the OIS. It makes me glad that I went for the 75mm and that the price point of the 42.5mm is too high for me so I did not get hit with the BBB virus for this.

Good review discussing the Nocticron vs the O45/1.8 , O75/1.8 and Voigtlander at http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Panasonic_Leica_DG_Nocticron_42-5mm_f1-2_H-NS043E/verdict.shtml

My take is now there's really something for everyone to the one who needs good quality IQ at a package (45/1.8's still a great lens at its price point and size ok) to the one who need the very best money can buy (75/1.8 and Noctricron 42.5)

So the next question is, is it worth selling your 75mm for this? I prefer to be really far from the subject when shooting however when someone requests a picture from me I really need to stay very far to take a picture of 3-4 people waist up. To those who have the 75mm any comment on this?

I've the 75/1.8 & won't be selling the 75/1.8 for this, main reason being I still can't afford the Noctricron even if I have sold my 75/1.8 :)

It's like I'm happy with my BMW Z4 even though I'm clear there's a Ferrari in the market too.

Some reviews might say the 75/1.8 is too tight, I beg to differ - it's all a matter of getting use to shooting at this FL and with enough practice it's a non issue. I've a friend who is able to do perfect group shots using the 75/1.8 o_o !!

Before I was using 45/1.8 and it took a bit of time getting used to the 75/1.8 but now I'll say I've totally no regrets upgrading.

I like your bmw symbolism. I guess I just need to practice more with this 75mm focal length. So back to the 42.5, I think if you can stretch your wallet for this it looks like that its worth it. But if you are willing to step further back or need more reach there is the 75mm f1.8 for half the price. For the really price conscious there is the 45mm without losing too much on image quality.

I guess we just need to wait for the price to go down on this lens :)

I have to agree with this. When I first got my 45 f1.8, it was really very tight for me as I was always used to focal length of around 20 something to 30 something. Now it is 90mm..anyway after awhile I got it and now with the 25mm f1.8 i need to get myself used to it again haha :bsmilie: the 75mm is a big poison tho.

At least now people will complain about the price of the 42.5mm f1.2 instead of the Oly 75mm.

haha bro, don't word it so negatively la. I take it this way, both lenses are worth their money. The question is rather: are we willing to pay for that level of quality?

aka like the World Cup 2014 with its minimum $105 outlay (w/o GST) , its gonna be one thing we all don't mind having, but are we willing to pay for it. (honestly, for me i rather pay for the lens & then go stream the world cup online ;P )

Hehe it was a positive comment about the 75mm

I hope there will be a definite review saying that this lens is miles away from the 75mm. Until that happens it is difficult to sell the 75mm for this.

Hmm like what was shared earlier, the plus will be the easier to use 42.5mm FL and of course the f1.2 advantage but always ask do u need this quality? Even the 75/1.8 is built too good for my use as a amateur though I appreciate what it can do.

Build wise both lenses are solid. But most important is end of the day the user , if the person don't bother to learn and just use - obviously any lens will deliver mediocre results. For example shooting outdoor portraits on the 75/1.8 today I realized the easy way out of using AF 100% is prob going to give u a lot of angst haha.

Im beginning to see the true value of a 45mm even more now that the 42.5mm is out.

thanks Wong for sharing :)

similar to my feel with my 10 mins of handling the Nocticron vs the 75mm. In short, there r definitely improvements worth the added cost but of similar importance will be my question of do I really need this quality too. the 45/1.8 is enough for many, the 75/1.8 for those who need the added IQ performance (already big jump) and the Nocticron for those who really want the best that can be offered.

a random shot from the 75/1.8
