Played for a few shots with the Tamron AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC, mounted on the 30D. Surprising well behaved in the limited light conditions of the hall. Response for focus was acceptable at least. But don't know for sure what's the IQ until we actually pixel peep.

And its surprisingly small ! Looks just like a 17-50, in fact it looks even smaller ! And very light too! Felt like ~500g I think in the hands. Supposedly 9 blades .. so should be really interesting. Can't say for sure using camera LCD, but I suspect it would become a very popular travel lens with FF cameras since its so compact, and its got a very short minimum focal distance of 49cm! Macro stand-off already!

I've tried a few canon lenses and i have to say. some are truly amazing. One of them is the 35 f/1.2L. Only one word: CRAZY. It's a crazy, crazy lens (and comes with a crazy crazy price as well). Since you mentioned the 24-70, it's also a mildly crazy one. Crazy, but not as crazy :P You should try them to understand them yourself. (:

85mm f/1.2 and 50mm f/1.2 and 135mm f/2L are the ones you should try as well. =)

haha.. true, yr 50mm f/1.2 coming soon~~ =D

I won't say that soon lah cos it's also not needed urgently. Maybe wait until the price drop further then buy. ;p
