I see, sorry to hear about your bad shopping experience, hope consumer tribunal will help you to resolve this matter fast.

you can share this in SMH to warn other mummies about purchasing cameras from some shops in Sim Lim Sq also.

We usually recommend people do their homework first before any purchase, and best patron those reputable shops.

Here's a 2008 Nikon price list. Hope this help.

btw, enjoy your new camera and do share your handsome boy's photos here..

Thanks Ben. I actually got a good deal on the camera.. it was the accessories (all 3rd paties) thatI've overpaid 100-300%!!!!!!! So geram...

Yea.. will share my experience with other mommies on the forum.

when u shop at sls u really have to be street smart..... if u go there 'hentam buta' without getting urself 'armed'. u r practically feeding urself to the sharks.

u got ur d40x is cheap BUT this is part of the "tactic" these sharks employ as a bait before they bite u back with other ridiculous items.

sorry to OT but i experienced it while i was shopping ard for a PSP there. one shop on 2nd floor was selling the set was damn cheap(cant remember how much but it was like 50% cheaper than outside), but the game was expensive. when i told the saleman i dont want the game. he was angry and asked me "Then how u gonna play!!??". when i said it was a gift and refused to buy any game from him. he resorted to saying that i have to buy the batt, as his set doesnt come with batt(and the price qouted for the batt was also ridiculous). i knew that all PSP set comes with batt....and this a$$hole salesman was trying to 'suckered' me.

i decide to teach him a lesson. make him entertain me for abt half an hour, try this, try that, take out this, take out that, ask for a ridiculous discount, cannot get, walk away

P.S. be careful of lucky plaza also. they employ same tactic but only COMPULSORY to buy game(and its 3x more ex);)

Hi! I don't know if i'm on the right thread but i'll share my experience with these kind of shops anyway.
I went to Lucky Plaza to buy an airline ticket for me and my wife and I was on the hunt for a dslr as well so just for curiosity I went t the basement and try to ask for prices( though I already went to sim lim the day before and one shop is offering me a D4ox kit for 750 plus gst.One shop offered me an 800 for the kit which I said no and when I was about to leave the lasy asked me how much do I expect so I said in SLS one shop is giving me 700.the she said ok 600 plus gst.I was surprised so I went to the nearest ATM and withdraw money and came back. The lady asked me to pay first anyway she confirmed that it's complete kit.I pay her my 650 and she took out the box.She told me if i'm slr user before and I said yes. When I want to try it out there's no battery and charger! So I told her i confirmed to her that it was a kit and sans the accessories but battery and charger is a must!she told me she gave me a really good price and I wanted battery and charger. That's the reason I kept on asking her if it's complete and she said yes.and the worst she doesnt want to give back my money!I know its a very good price but your'e deceiving your customers.I was in a shock. She told me to wait for her boss to come in the evening (it's currently 1030 am ) for the refund.I myself comes from managing a shop in an F&B industry can't believe it.She doesn't want me to give the owner's handphone no.One of the male attendant whispered and said I might as well buy anything from the shop.now they are offering me handphone,SD card, camera bag that are overpriced.Thinking that I don't want to release the beast in me, I bought an overpriced UV filter Vitacon for $43.and I got my 607 change.

Somehow I started to blame myself.maybe because I'm new in the Dslr market and I was caught.I was completely robbed in broad daylight!

So if you got the vitacon filter for $25 or $30, don't fret. mine is more expensive.

I vowed not to buy or ask anything electronic or any items from these shops in LP.

Hope this will help.

By the way I got the UV filter for nikon lens and what i bought just yesterday is olympus e300.I'll just keep it for remembrance..:)

Big big sigh.... I bought my PL (god knows what brand) UV filter for $65!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just feel slaughtered. The worse thing about this is, nobody can do anythingt about them. I called SLS mgmt, apparently this shop is well known for their dishonesty and police were there a few times. No wonder they dare me to call police yesterday and ridiculed me saying nobody will entertain my complaints. I guess they are right cos when I called CASE earlier, they said my case is not strong because I do not have the RRP for the things I bought. Well, I may not get any justice today but I believe what goes around comes around. So those out there, bewarned about this shop. :nono:

All in all, I paid more than $400 in total for the screw on wide angle lens ($200 - which they had the cheek to tell me was originally $1399.

Sounds like an "unfair practice" under the Second Schedule the Consumer Protectection (Fair Trading) Act, that is, "7. Representing that a price benefit or advantage exists respecting goods or services where the price benefit or advantage does not exist." Essentially, if they are saying that you are being given a big discount over RRP when you are actually being overcharged, that would be an unfair practice.

If you can prove the facts, you may want to consider taking action against the vendor in the Small Claims Tribunal. Sometimes, the vendor may want to settle once the claim is filed since its a major hassle for the vendor. A director or authorised representative has to attend to the mediation session and, if that does not result in a settlement, the actual hearing itself.

Hi Nicnaps, I called CASE but I was told I do not have strong evidence indicating the price I paid is an overcharge. Word of mouth from other merchants does not count. Aaah... These people are very smart. Accessories are hard to track. Imagine, I can't even google more info on the brands of accessories I bought (ITTOU, ED-Digital, PL). That is why they ridiculed me and challenge I should go ahead to the police. I'm not giving up my case. I still want to lodge an official complain against them though I'm reaching a cul-de-sac on how to find proof. Wish me luck.....

well, why not put your new camera to good use?
Snap a few pics of their shop and the sales people, and post it on Stomp.

But you need to be fast tho - if they see you, they might chase u.

I guess it would be dangerous for her to do it alone.

I once bought a pair of earphones from a shop in People's Park SC - I had dealt with them before and found them ok. This round, they quoted me an inflated price and gave me a discounted price (after some bargaining). The discounted price turned out to be higher than the RRP, which pissed me off a bit. Initially, I thought of putting this down as a lesson to be learned since they were inexpensive earphones. Finally, I wrote to the shop, stating that I was of the view that they had committed an unfair practice and demanded a refund, failing which I would take legal action. They paid up

In any case (pun :D), CASE is not the final arbiter, it is the Small Claims Tribunal. If its a case of your word against the vendor's, when it goes before the Small Claims Tribunal, the judge will listen to both sides and will have to decide which party is more credible.

Call their bluff and, if you think appropriate, file a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal. Even if your claim is dismissed, you have the satisfaction of dragging them down to give you a "polite" and proper explanation in front of the judge. Never give up if you think that you are right ... Just download the claim forms and see what is required on your end.
