Lens which you regret buying it

i dun really try to discourage my fren to get Dslr. imho, dslr really make photo better. this is a fact, but it is also a matter a value for money. (this does not mean dslr dun produce bad photo, it about the skill...) dslr is much bigger, heavier... so this will indirectly discourage most ppl who really mind about the weight and size to bring out. Also,there are better smaller alternative to use.

otherwise, i think money is most impt facto... how i wish i got more spare cash to upgrade my lens collection and accessories...

got money oso not spend everyting on constant chasing of the wind...

You mention that the lens is sharp when using flash? Why not you perform a focusing test when mounted on a tripod.

If you have "sharpness" or focusing issue even after a tripod mounted test, my advise is that you send it for CSC calibration with your body.

With regards to IQ & colours of the Canon 18-200IS, if you are looking for L graded lenses... it's like comparing apple and orange.

Having owned & used the 18-200IS and a number of primes and constant F2.8 zoom (includes a few Ls). The 18-200IS still remain one of my fav lens till date.

yeah saw ur post. tested with tripod still doesn't seems sharp kinda like the focus point is smudged abit even i tried using micro adjustment does not work. btw how much does the calibration cost?

theres nothing wrong with wanting more gear if you ask me. as long as you don't obsess over it mroe than shooting

Oh nono, I won't discourage, why would I? I can have one more kaki to shoot with, thats a great thing. Just that I wouldn't want my friend to go the hard way, so at least he or she can refer to the article and derive some wisdom from there. I think that article is a good starting point for those who had at least read up abit about dslr photography and is trying to plan his or her purchase.

Hi!

I have sold 2 lens (with financial loss) regretting buying it:

1) Canon EF 90-300 f4.5-5.6
2) Canon EF 100-300 f 4.5-5.6 USM

I was disappointed with lack of sharpness above 200mm. After that I bought Canon EF 100-300 f5.6L, and Tokina AT-X 100-300 f4, its sharpness is OK.

hmmmm there are two ways to shoot walk about on the street... one u snipe from far...

one is you get close in and 'feel' the streets... 'feel' the people... dps ever reccommended using a wide angle lens to get in and shoot without being intrusive to privacy, allowing u to capture the subject in the context of its surroundings...

That article is not about discouraging folks from acquiring an SLR camera.

It is about what equipment to look out for to suit your purposes, rather than buying a whole array of lenses full circle by trial and error.

As long as your body and lenses are under warranty the calibration is free.

Brought UWA Len. But difficult to frame if taking people.
Moreover Singapore got limited landscape to shoot.
Maybe 15mm is wide enough.
So I need wa not uwa!
