so far my bbb virus is under control, buy 2 sell 2.
just bought a 30L cabinet...if not for fungus in my both lens, zzz...

ppl tend to "commit sucide" and convince themselves what needs to be upgrade...LoL...

me?
i'm dreamin of tat 17-55 f/2.8, a backup sb600, 70-300vr....arrhhhggg...sweet poison...LoL

If there is any consolation, my last 2 years' acquisition: AFD 60mm, AFS 60mm, AFS 18-105mm, AFD 50mm f/1.8, AFS 105mm VR, Tokina 10-17mm Fisheye, AFD 105mm (yup you read right), AFS 35mm f/1.8G. During the same time, sold AF 50mm f/1.4, AFD 60mm and AFS 18-135mm.

Highest rate of acquisition in the past 25 years!

Yiaks, only bought 8 lenses (and sold 3)... Aiya lost to you... Your infection more severe!

To keep this (barely) IT (in topic), here's the advise to newbies looking for upgrades: either (1) don't upgrade - it is the road of no return, after upgrade there is more upgrade! (2) upgrade but refrain from asking for advise - research what you need, and let no one influence you on what to buy.

:bsmilie:ha ha ha Good to know there is another bro to keep me 'sane' or 'insane' To TS, pls take this bro's good advice:devil:

LMAO :bsmilie:

u guys are funny... yeah i will take note of his advice. BUT I will still get an upgrade of lens. Roughly I know what range of lens to get to compliment my 18-105. But price will be a big issue. ;(

Think the first thing i should upgrade or get now is a PIGGY BANK.:sweat:

u r looking at completing the focal length?

actually u should look through ur pics and c which focal length and what type of shots do u normally use/take.

to complete ur range, i would think of tokina 11-16, nikon 70-300vr.

but based on what i take, i dun need those

Trust me.. After the 17-55/2.8DX, it will be D700+24-70/2.8. A temporary suppressant is losing your job. ;p

Come over to my camp, be a nay sayer to big superzooms and big f/2.8 lens, mali mali... :bsmilie:

Be a prime lens supporter, f/1.4, f/1.8, f/2 and f/2.8 only! He he... :sweatsm:

My dream kit ... D60, AFS 20mm f2.8G, AFS 35mm f/1.8G, AFS 85mm f/1.8G, for travel and casual shooting, but sigh... no AF on AFD20 and AF85.

My He-man rig ... D300 + AFS 105, etc. :)

Well... i m considering the 18-200 or 70-300 range.
As for the lower range, I m still thinking.

The 70-300 VR and the 18-200 VR are both around the same price range, with the 18-200 costing more, but i think you'll beable to offset that difference after selling your current lens.

Since its within your consideration, i would suggest 70-300. Why? because you would beable to buy more glass for your 10-70 range. With the 18-200, you would be wondering "should i buy this 17-50 lens? Should i buy this 28-70 lens? etc just because your range covers them, unless you WANT that?

Yes, same sentiments.
With the 18-105, it may be enuf to use as a walkabout for now, coz m still new to photography. but m thinking of something with more zoom zoom... :bsmilie:

btw, u know the price of the 18-200 and 70-300?

If someone can make a lens of 12-105 f2.8 at the cost less than $2000, I only need this one lens, full stop. But I think those makers are not stupid, they always create some gaps here and there, so force us to BBB.

YOu can check the indicative new street price of both from here

If you are on budget try the 55-200mmVR(>$250+/-) or 70-300mmG(+/-$200) lenses. All the above mention will be a lot less in the B&S section, which I'm trying very hard to stay away:lovegrin:

Good luck:devil:

Anw i last check w AP-SLS last night, the 17-50 f2.8 VC is ard $870 (Cash).

Keen on getting this lens.

Been having the BBB virus since i tried the 14-24 and 24-70 f2.8 on my D90 last week.

Really drool... :p

My colleague enquire the price at AP-SLS and its at $825(Cash) :D

12-105mm f/2.8 at today's technology will likely be:
(a) very large, probably twice to three times the size of 24-70mm f/2.8, likely the size of 70-200VR
(b) very expensive, probably $6000 or more
(c) have very serious distortion issues at the wide end and soft at 105mm
(d) minimum focus maybe 2m and at 105mm likely to shorten to focal length 60mm at minimum shooting distance

The makers are optical-mechanical-electronic engineers who need to work within the realm of physic, mechanic and electronics. I don't believe they are out to create gaps, but they have to work within the limits of science and technology to give you the best at the price you'll pay.

If the lens can be made, you can be assured that someone will make it. Wind back to the late 80's, no superzoom from NC. Tamron came up with superzoom, then NC were forced to make superzooms.

But for an instance assume they will sell you the imagined 12-105mm f/2.8 at $2000, will you buy it?
