Lens Recommendation for Nikon D90

Hahaha. Thanks for all the recommendations. :D

Daredevil123: Yup I do agree with your point, but I already have the tripod, dry cab, blower and a camera bag. Any other things I would need?

Actually I do have an idea of what lenses I want and have a few in mind. However, the dilemma is that whether I should buy a lens which widens my shot (wide-angled lens) or extend my reach (zoom or telephoto lens). Which should I go for 1st?

18mm not wide enough? need extra reach?
go and shoot more and you'll know which lenses you want first.

remember if you are able to justify moving on to FX, then sayonara to your DX lens. ;)

Hi dangrax,

i am also "facing" your kind of dilemma,
i also juz started D90, prior been playing with SX10.

Anyway, the D90 kit lens is good enough for most stuff.

until later when u are shooting then u will need
-Animals - 200mm and above for those wild animal/bird
-Natural Landscapes - kit lens is able, unless u are taking building etc, where space is tight. then u may wan to get some wide angle lens.
-Flowers and Plants - maybe a prime lens with some marco filter or lens

i currently have the D90 kit lens and a 50mm 1.8D
kit for almost everything
50mm for individual or small group
50mm adding macro for close up.

that my 2c cheers

a tamron 90mm or tokina 100mm would be nice for macro for the plants and flowers and insects that you will take and at half the price of nikon 105mm VR. and another 50mm 1.8 would another value addition. total cost should be less then 900 even when bought new.

:think:I think he should go out and buy a good full frame 200m f2.8 or f4 tele...(I like the Nikon AF180m f2.8, as its very sharp and also light weight ...its only $500-600 US used on ebay)...

next buy a good 14m f2.8 (Samyang comes to mind at only about $450 us) Manual focus is easy in wide angle anyway......(the Samyang is very sharp and holds its own with the Nikon 14m f2.8 in most situation for about 1/4th the price and its built like a tank...)

His 18-105 is not very wide as he has a dx cam so its about like a 28m or so... Later he can go out and buy (on ebay, used of course) a good Nik 50 1.4, and a good micro Nikkor 55....

A good 2x teleconverter would also complement the Telephoto. If you cannot afford the Nikon than try the Kenko teleplus MC7 (N-AFd 2X) .

Most folks cannot tell the difference between full frame and DX frame pics up to about 11x 14 anyway...However I definately like the brighter view finders of the full frame cameras...

Cheers

PS.... I do not own any Nikon FF bodies, but I do own a Canon 5d (old one) that I mount Nikon glass on (with a Nik to eos adapter)...I bought it because the Nik D3 ff was to expensive and the D700 had not come out yet...

:cool:Any way when I want a really big pic, I pull out my Ebony or Toyo 45 and then scan the negs,,,but thats another forum,,,He He..:);)
