Hi,

I wanna buy nikon lens 18-200 (new) in Hong Kong. Heard it's a lot cheaper there.
not sure if it's ok to ask a friend to buy it for me, though it's global warranty.

any one had the same experience of asking fren to buy?

Thanks.

(PS: not sure if it's appropriate to post here. Apologies if it's not)

just make sure your local nikon service center do honor global warranty.

make sure the lens you are buying has international warranty (and not gray set). And remember to keep the original receipt.

Hi CS Tan,

A friend of mine and also me, are interested in getting Tokina lens from Hong Kong. Are the "procedures" and "process" the same as getting Nikon lens? Does Tokina offer international warranty like Tamron? I am asking because I am be going to Hong Kong again.

Thanks.

To TS,

You can read the following:

and more importantly this one: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=480176

Seems like Shen siung and CS Tan are the experts.

I will try to help if I can, my experience is somewhat limited to one time :D

To answer your questions:

1. Get from the reputable shops
2. OK to ask a friend to buy, just make sure your friend knows what he/she is buying. Need to check the lens. (I bought for my friend too... but of course he trusted me though I am a newbie. He coached to check the lens)
3. Remember to get the international warranty and the receipts.
4. The shop I went to initially didn't want to give me international warranty for Tamron lens that I wanted. But I insisted, so they gave me. Everything is documented, i.e. serial number is on the card and also on the receipt.
5. Btw, show your intention to buy, before they will take it out for you to test.

Good luck.

As far as I can remember, Tokina started the international warranty practice around 2 years ago in 2007. Before that, it was just a 1-year local warranty.

So, when looking for Tokina lens in HK, make sure you have the International warranty card with you and you should be ok. Alternatively, you can check with Cathay Photo in Singapore to check on Tokina International warranty. It should be consistent across the world.

Ok, thanks for the information. I will check before I head out to HK.
