hi peeps!

i need some help here! do i still need a wide angle zoom lens AF Zoom-Nikkor 24-50mm f/3.3-4.5D when my current set up is a 18-55mm and a vivitar zoom 70-300mm lens?


I do not want to make a rash decision just simply because it's a wide angle zoom lens?

1.am i right to say that my 18-55mm has a better focal length than the 24-50mm?
2.currently i have a offer selling a second hand 24-50mm at $300? is it worth it?
3. is the wide angle nikkor 24-50mm any good?

Just basing purely on zoom range, I don't feel you need the 24-50mm. Your current 18-55mm is sufficient.

Since you already have the 18-55, you are already better off than to waste money on a 24-50.

And you'd be surprised what a 18-55 can do. Learn to work the most out of it. It is a great lens.

You already have the range covered with your 18-55, why do you want a 24-50 where there is an overlap in the range? 24-50 even more restrictive than 18-55 too.

Better to get something like a 50-200 or 70-300, or a 10-20 or 12-24 if you're thinking of going telephoto in the former case, or going wider in the latter case. 24-50 with assuming 1.5x crop factor is not wide at all, imho, gives you 35mm equivalent of 36-75. Of course the question is begging - do you really need another lens, and why so? If you can give yourself a logical answer which is acceptable, then go for it if you have the financial means.

Stick with your 18-55mm lens, it is a more useful range for your camera. If you really want a super wide angle lens, then you should be looking at lenses in the 10-22mm range.

i don think u will need the 24-50. no point. unless that 24-50 can do wonders.

if u are really itching to change to some other lenses, i suggest u sell off ur 18-55 to get the 18-70 (IMHO a better kit lense, but of course not a good upgrade option).
