Lens Dilemma. Downgrade or stay?

Not sure if you realised that a RX100 M2 cost $999. That is way more expensive than option 1!!

For a even cheaper TTL flash, you may want to check out Yongnuo YN-468 II. You can get it around USD80 from eBay including shipping. I personally think that this is your best option.

Hmm I think I would go with yn565 from taobao. It's only $100 add shipping around $120.

565ex is good. Its inexpensive but the usage is good. But if you required high speed sync, 568ex is there.

The comparison is akin to 430EX vs 580EX. While I agree that a larger flash with a higher GN is useful, you have to consider the portability and your application of the flash as well. For me, I personally prefer a smaller and lighter flash since I predominantly use them for fill flash and don't really need the extra power. It is your choice! :bsmilie:

Have you considered getting a good used prime lens? May stretch your budget a little, but will help with lowlight shots and depth of field.

Hmm yeah I've considered a prime before but I need the versatility of the zoom in events

Hmm may I know what's fill flash?

Hmm may I know what's fill flash?

Fill flash is a term used when low powered flash is required to highlight a certain area and prevent shadows.

An example is a portraiture with subject standing in front of the sun (the sun is behind him/her). If a shot is taken without fill flash the subject will appear very dark (shadowy). Fill flash comes to the rescue with just enough light to illuminate the subject eliminating darkness or shadows.

The little flash on top of most APS-C DSLR's is regarded as fill flash... not powerful enough to illuminate a subject far away but just enough to illuminate a subject two or three meters in front of the camera.

ummm... flash might be the obvious option. but normally how far are you from your subject?

you say you shoot events. are those events lighted up like stage performances?

if you use 550, you can try shooting RAW then de-noise using PC instead. updated algo can give you quite good results up to 1600.

Lastly, are you shooting for yourself or your photos are used by others. If shoot for yourself only, why the hard ISO restriction? Shooting are low-light even using fast lens what is your norm shutter speed? motion blur due to low shutter speed might lose more image definition then noise at higher ISO. (even for 550).
