That's a lot of lenses within a short period of time.

Ended up losing a fair bit amidst changing/upgrading lenses as I didn't give enough thought.

1. 400D w/ 18-55 IS
2. Bought 50mm f/1.8
3. Bought 55-250 IS
4. Sold 50mm f/1.8
5. Bought Tamron 17-50 f/2.8
6. Sold 18-55 IS
7. Bought Tokina 12-24 f/4
8. Sold Tokina 12-24 f/4
9. Bought Tokina 11-16 f/2.8
10. Sold Tamron 17-50 f/2.8
11. Bought Canon 17-55 f/2.8
12. Bought Sigma 30mm f/1.4

Chances are regardless of what I initially planned to buy, I might still be inclined to change my mind later after having considerable hands-on experience. Still, I think that careful thought should be given. Don't be careless like me =)

Now, I'm left with a 70-200 f/2.8 IS.

My own lesson learnt are:

Lesson 1: "Save to buy the best directly if not the second best."
In this way, u will not keep thinking of upgrading.
Lesson 2: "Rent it to try out yourself no matter how good review u read in forum"
Lesson 3: "if it is a short term/event needs, don't buy it."
Lesson 4: "buy popular lens as the resale value is higher."
Lesson 5: "buy new. Used may not be cheaper. Consider grey"

18-55 (Sold)
50 1.8 (Sold)
24-85
35 1.4
17-40

Thinking of selling the 24-85 for a 24-105. but f/4 isn't gonna do it! :bsmilie: 24-85 still tack sharp though.

That's a lot of lenses within a short period of time.

yAloR.. starting photography on Oct 2010 bought my 1st dslr on Nov, come to think of it i really spent alot... hahaa

Hmm... for me, first was my 550D body:

- then 2 weeks later (without any lens for 2 weeks!) 16-35mm f2.8 MK2 USM;
- then 50mm f1.4 (cos the f1.2 price is way too high);
- then 580EX ii flash;
- then 70-200mm f2.8 IS ii USM;
- next will be... selling my 550D to get the 5DMK3 (6D?)

Yeah!!

12-24mm
50mm
60mm
70-200mm
300mm

No overlapping :)

I used to keep a list like this, no use... it never ends :D though it's good to have a direction :D

Previous
EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (kit)

Current
EF 50mm f/1.8 II
EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

Future
EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM or EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM

Which also begs the question: does IS really enables a f/4 lens to perform like a f/2.8, discounting the depth-of-field effects? One thing for sure, though, the f/4 lenses are much lighter and smaller.

- purchased 17-40 f/4
- 50 f/1.8 II
- 70-200 f/4
- sold 10D for 5D

17-40 f4L
70-200 f2.8L MK II (after selling the f4L)

35mm f1.4 Zeiss (Planning to buy after selling 35 1.4L)

In sequence:
1) 18-55mm Kit
2) 70-200 F4
3) 50mm f1.8
4) Samyang 500mm Mirror
5) Tarmon 70-300mm 1:2 Macro
6) 1.4x Exender
7) 70-200mm f2.8 IS Mk I

Quite an overlap on the 70-200 part, but Tarmon is useful when shooting small static items with tripod
