Lens advice.

1. Build quality. Touch/feel it and you know, handling is more comfortable.
2. Being able to shoot at f2.8/3.5, performance is respectable wide open.
3. extra reach between 45-54 is useful on many occasions
4. AF faster
5. colours are better (subjective, my personal views only)

Noted. Faster AF? Hmmm... i already feel that the 14~45 is pretty ok, that means the 14~54 must be great by my standards.

Agree on AF. I also find it very fast and have no problems with it. However, as far as I know it is much depending on the camera and the battery condition. I did some experimenting with my camera, connected external fully charged 2500mAh batteries and that made a huge difference. So when CTN says faster than 14-45, is it tested on the same camera with about the same battery level? On which model? I know the AF speed is improved in the E-500, some E-1 and E-500 owners even say it is faster than the E-1 with grip. I don't know if that is true, I don't have E-1 to compare with but I don't know why somebody who owns both would say the E-500 is faster if it was not. AF is not just the lens and the motor in the lens, it is also the processing of information that finds the focus. If processing is faster, than AF is faster also. It may even compensate for the slower motor (if it is slower). So, saying AF is faster does not say anything if not compared under the same conditions.

Another thing, the 14-54 should be faster for another reason also, which is not dependent on the above. That lens is much brighter and AF is always measured and set at the widest aperture. I don't know if it makes much difference at 14mm but definitely at 45mm. The 14-45 is f5.6 at 45mm while the 14-54 is f3.5 or wider. I don't have the lens so I can not say more exact, but as worst case it can be f3.5 and that is a big difference from f5.6.

On the 14~54, at the closest, is there any magnification? The 36mm is a 1:1, 50mm have a 1.5X magnification (think I am wrong)

For the 14-54, it's 0.26x at closest, according to its online datasheet.

I think 14-54 and 50-200 is a good combination. Buying different lens will have problem with filters as they are different size. This combo has same filter diameter therefore can use on both.

I suggest u keep to 40-150 too, good for travelling.

HiHi, like to ask something abt the differing lenses oly offers. It seems wat is said so far, is dat the oly lenses have satisfactory sharpness to ultra sharp sharpness. Curiously,which lens are contrasty in a given order? Does it also have anything to do with the sensors themselves for more contrasty photos?

Been really appreciative for the information, this thread and others has been a worthy read.

First off, one should not worry too much about the filters, other than the UV or some protective which is always on the lens, the others you can always buy to fit the biggest lens you have and reduction rings for the rest. Like now, I am looking into a CPL of 72mm for the biggest lens that I have which is the 11-22. After that, I will go around looking for the reduction to fit the rest of the lenses. the reduction is much much cheaper than the filter itself. Unless you have lots of $$$ to spend, then one filter for each lens size..

if you do not want to have the vignette effect when you double stack on filters then try to get something bigger for CPL.

You're welcome. If you can or can not get that with a 50mm depends on the size. My guess is that that image is not a 1:1 image where 10mm in life is equal to 10mm on sensor. That picture looks like more than 1:2, so my guess is that it would not be a problem, but that is just a guess.
