What did you order and how much did you pay for it?

i ordered
1. FZ10 tube + 62mm cap
2. 62 - 58 step-down ring

for (1), i asked for a 62mm instead of the 72mm. the guy quoted me $23, so it seems cheaper ordering directly from them than via ebay. but not sure if it is because i opted for a smaller cap

the guy that i contacted with is rongjin@phayee.com. seems quite responsive when i asked him questions. but if you want to be safe, probably can wait for my shipment to come (just receive his email that he has shipped the goods :D ), then at least there is one successful case.

hmmm just some thought.... is your adapter bought from "san ge" a step down ring ?? i mean you had step down from 72mm to either 62mm or 55mm in order for you to attach the lotus hood on.

btw the lotus hood is a 'sigma' hood right ? will there be any dark shadow when you had step the lens from 72 to 62 ??? :)

thanks

Pictures speaks 1001 words... :D

Hi Then,

I was about to make my payment but I stop after reading this post:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1033&message=9456499

The lens adapter looks the same so is your adapter from rong jin having the same problem.

Can you post a review on the lens adapter?

:)

I've got the mentioned adapter. Tested it, as mentioned in the post. No problem at all as described. His case seems to be an isolated one.

The point is, the adapter doesn't even touch the lens extension, so how to push? :dunno:

Any other users have this problem?

btw, his second photo is totally off-focus, not just around the edges as he said. This might mean his camera have a problem focusing with the adapter, or more likely, his filter, on. Maybe he can try focusing with adapter on but without his filter.

Lightning69, can help post? me no acct in dpreview. thx.. =)

Interesting to find out whether there are other users with the same problem.

I don't see much of a problem even if the adapter I (am supposed to) receive presents itself as such.

Al it will take is a little judicious filing and sanding in the right places...not a problem for me :)

just a quick reply as i need to rush off, will give more detail when i am back, ok?

I have not got my visa bill yet, but in us$, this is a breakdown of what i paid
2 section FZ10 adapter tube + 62mm lens cap us$23
Shipping + insurance us$ 7.50
TOTAL us$30.50
i also orderer a 62-58 step down, price not listed here
did he quote any of you at a different price?

i am more than satisfied with the goods. more details to come later

the phayee hood causing problem?? i did a quick test in my room, which has quite bad lighting condition (but no time to go mf, sorry about that). 4 shots in total, bare fz10, with original hood, with phayee adapter and with phayee adapter&hood

all shots done in p mode, 12xzoom, iso50, f2.8, 1/4sec. tripod mount (but i accidentally shifted it slightly between shoots) & no filter. to a non-professional eye like mine, i dont see much difference. here are the links:

I have got a quote from Rong jin and it goes like this:

Qty Description Unit Price Amount
1 Panasonic FZ10 adapter tube 25.00 25.00
1 62-55 step-down ring 7.00 7.00
1 62mm lens cap w/cord 1.00 1.00

Subtotal: 33.00
Shipping: 6.00
Currency is in U.S. Dollars (USD) Total: $39.00 USD

He is overcharging me $2 for the adapter and I have to pay extra $1 for the 62mm lens cap. He mentioned that he don't have the 72mm lens cap anymore. I was asking for both 62mm and 72mm lens cap for greater flexibility. Will negotiate with him again.

Can believe that I'm placing order for this adapter while I haven't even purchase my FZ10 yet. :) Just want to be ready once i get the camera ;)

Anyway, thanks you all for your post to clear the doubt about the adapter.

Cheers

just got back from my appt. will try to take some shots of the adapter for you guys this evening. basically it seems to be the same as san ge's but without any wordings :)

eh, please note that i opted for only the 62mm lens cover instead of the default 72mm one. not sure if that is the cause of the difference of us$2. and i opted to pay for insurance (us$1.50) for the peace of mind.

took a few shots of the adapter while watching tv last nite. And because it was placed so near the tv, the lighting changed quite drastically as the screen changes, didnt notice that until i uploaded them onto the pc today :embrass: . anyway, here they are:

bascially the package consists of 4 modules
a. lens adapter tube, 62mm (metallic)
b. the hood adapter. 72mm (metallic)
c. 62mm or 72mm cover
d. external thread cover/sheath for (a) - didnt know this was part of the package, but i think it is quite a good idea
http://img26.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img26&image=Package.jpg
(the original panasonic hood is at the bottom left)

if both (a) and (b) is used together, it is almost the same as the original hood
http://img26.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img26&image=Comparison.jpg

i like the idea of the external thread cover, it is screwed onto the external thread, thus preventing particles from being trapped there and it looks slightly nicer too. you will have to remove this when using the hood adapter because both this and the hood are also mounted vis the external thread
http://img26.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img26&image=ThreadCover.jpg

so two set-up are possible (a)+(d) or (a)+(b):
http://img26.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img26&image=TwoSetUps.jpg

i opted for a 62mm cover because i think i will not be using the hood most of the time; and i already have a 72mm cover anyway.

two additional +es that I did not expect are the external thread cover and the entire set has totally no markings/wordings. prior ordering, the pic that I saw on the web has the company name printed on the adapter tube, which i thought was quite awful.

one -es that i can think of now is because the set is metallic and coated in black, the black coating is susceptible to scratches. you know those wear/scratch marks that we often get on the metallic ring of filter.

overall, i am happy with the purchase as it is reasonably well built and much cheaper than other similar adapters from other manufacturers.

Got mine today - 6 days after receiving payment confirmation.

I paid USD $38 for

1) Adapter set
2) 62-55 step down ring (very thin)
3) Shipping
4) 62mm lens cap w/no string (I didn;t order this but I guess it was thrown in FOC)

On the whole, I am very satisfied with the transaction, as well as Rong Jin's service. I probably wouldn't quibble about a $2 difference for such good service, but that's just me.

Thing is, mine was hand-delivered eventhough there was enough space in my mail-box for it. Any of you guys got it hand-delivered as well?

As for the potential problems, I didn't encounter any, but I preferred to sand down the insides of the adapter just to play safe. It may seem a little crazy, but it seems that a few of the pictures taken with the adapter (no hood, no filter no both shots) seemed just a teeny-weenie bit darker...and sharper  Probably my eyes playing tricks on me.

Thank you all.

I think i will order from him later.

I want to wait untill 20th july because panasonic is having some new camera launch on that day.
