Leica vs Carl Zeiss ZM bokeh

Ultron 28/1.9 is an excellent lens. Slightly less contrasty than Leica 28mm both Elmarit asph & Cron. BTW, this excellent lens is discontinued-get it while you can. It's screw mount so can get adapter that can be coded for M8.

I think the rumour is that they M mount version will be made available soon? Any substance to this, does not make sense that the lens will be discontinued permanently.

M mount for 28f1.9 probably but for M8 need to remove mounting flange & send for milling of recesses to enable coding. On top of that, some lens such as the new CV M-mount 21mm-the mount is linked to the helicoid so not so easy to remove.

For bokeh, between the ZM 35 and the Cron IV 35, Cron IV 35. Between the Cron IV and UC-Hexanon 35, the UC-Hexanon.

For sharpness, between the Lux 35 ASPH and the Cron 35 ASPH up to around f4. Then it is the same. Between the ZM 35 and Cron 35, tought one. There is build quality, bokeh smoothness, contrast, color, warmth, etc

For other possible 35mm lenses, the one to get is the Nikkor 35mm (SP 2005 edition and needs mount). Another good alternative is the M-Hexanon 35mm.

The W-Nikkor 35mm f1.8 lens that comes with SP 2005 does NOTwork with Leica M series, even with a proper Nikon-S to Leica-M adaptor (eg. one made by Kindai Co. of Japan) due to the large rear lens element of the W-Nikkor. (I have both the 2005 MC version and the original 1956's version so I know.) The original one however, had a LTM variant which will work with a standard L-to-M adaptor, will couple with a Leica M properly.

I always thought that the adapters will work like the Orion, seeing that it works with the 50mm.

From the link, I could not tell the difference betwen the Summicron and the Biogon when someone posted a side by side comparision of the 2 recliners.

If you do not detect any differences or care about them, the answer always is to get the cheaper one. In this case, it would be the Zeiss.

If you wish to consider resale value, etc, a secondhand Cron would be a good choice.

Even the expensive Orion adaptor would only mount properly with standard and tele- but would not mount properly for most of the wide angle lenses, and we are talking about contax mount Carl Zeiss RF lenses.

Same situation for S-mount Nikkor lenses. Worse still, there is an inherent RF focusing inaccuracy with Nikkor RF lenses used.

Yes, this was what I was telling myself, I can't even tell the difference when pixel peeping, but only if my final decision is a F2 lens.

Anybody try any old lens like Cooke,Kinoplasmat, Angenieux and Kinoptik...... ? this lens produced excellent bokeh effect.......

check this link.....

Thanks for the link, Camera23. First time I've seen pictures from the thambar lens. Any idea, where I can buy the Kinoptik lens? The Kinoptik lenses must be modified to work on Leica-M, I think they're cine lenses.

Normal adapters will not allow focusing at infinity. I have seen one customised to fit the 50mm.
