Leica version of LX3

I'm sure there will be a review where they compare the pictures of the D-Lux 4 with the LX3 once they get their hands on a set.

tink he's sayin D-LUX3 = LX2 and D-LUX4 = LX3. :dunno:
How to jump to that conclusion when D-LUX4 is not even out yet?
Even when comparing D-LUX2 with LX1 and D-LUX3 with LX2, there were slight differences in the image quality, mainly in the colour rendering. Leica colours tended towards a bit more neutral as compared to those of Panasonic. Could be because Europeans like a more natural colour palette as compared to the more saturated colour palettes favoured by Asians. This could be seen even when comparing the default colours of European TVs like Loewe, B&O, etc as compared to those of Japanese/Korean TVs.

I not sure... the "experts" are as linked. :bsmilie:

Curious... would someone buy the D-LUX4 which is 99% similar to the LX3 & pay more just for the Leica name?

Leica has set out guidelines how it wants it output to be. Which might not might not make a difference to the people using it. Not to mention the C-Lux 3 looks really really nice.

Well it depends.. I think one of the reply in another forum hits it right on.

The gist of that reply is. Eventhough you have good high end DSLR but use it sparingly on special occasion or organised shoots but use PnS and bring it out daily. Then your choice would be to have the best PnS as you will be using it almost all the time.

But if PnS is also used sparingly then different lah, with this in mind we can see why there are 2 camps.

Lecia D-LUX4 sure looks nice... hmmm... I think I'll wait for m43 version.

These "experts" are merely debating the pros and cons of buying a Leica or a cheaper Leica-clone.
Most of us dream of owning a Leica camera but will probably never do so especially for their DSLRs and digital rangefinders. The Leica Digilux 3 and M8 cost so much that we could have gotten a full-frame DSLR plus lenses for the same price.
The nearest we could get to owning a Leica is to get their P&S like D-LUX2, D-LUX3 and D-LUX4 which are slightly higher in price and still within our budget. In any case, the Leica P&Ss usually come with extended waranty, more software and Leica-branded carrying case, etc... all of which do add up to offset somewhat the higher prices they charge for their cameras.

The C-LUX 3 does look a lot better than the D-LUX 4 to me too. :)

I think beside the front-cover & some software tweak, I think the DLux 4 & LX3 are physically the same (plz correct me if I am wrong).

Hence if I am shooting RAW on either camera, my picture quality should be similar ( if not the same due to RAW-JPG conversation). Am I right?

Same sensor, same lens, same quality.

The difference lies in how Leica interprets the colour output, which may affect RAW as well (RAW is never truly RAW nowadays). Then when the RAW is cooked by a converter, you could again tweak the colours to any particular profile or to taste.

Now... if onli we can organise a LX3 vs D-LUX 4 shootout. ;p;p

We need a volunteer to buy the D-LUX 4... ;p

According to Dpreview, the Leica cameras come with extended warranty. I wonder does it applied to SG as well?

Any kind souls out there bought any Leica camera in sg before?

Seen comparison photos b/w the cameras, no fight. Leica's more tru to life out of the camera.;p

Are there any comparison photos on-line? I've never actually managed to find any. Either for the LX-3 or the previous LX-2 and its Leica counterpart. I've heard a few times that the Leica images are more natural but never seen any 1:1 comparison for the same view.

Yes, Leica are one of the few products that fully uphold their Guarantee in Singapore. I had problems with my M8 (I bought one of the early ones) and when I enquired with Leica about the fix the brought out a little later - including the free IR filters they replaced my whole camera and also gave me the free filters.

They officially honour their guarantees in SIngapore.

I'm intending to but a D-Lux 4 when it comes out. I would be happy to get together with a LX-3 owner and do side-by-side shoots to try and see if I wasted the extra bucks or not. Any volunteers - preferably on the West side of Singapore near Holland / Bukit Timah / NUS area?

U know what this means for LX3 owners?? Soon we can buy a lovely leather Leica case that can fit our LX3 in, instead of shelling out 100 plus for the Panasonic one that says 'Lumix'.
MUAHAHA!
