Leica UV filter or B+W MRC ?

Hi all,

I used to protect my lens and shoot with B+W MRC UV filter, and I am happy with the result and protection.

And I've bought a 35mm 'cron recently, the seller threw in a Leica UV filter 13131A with the lens.

I don't know the difference between a Leica UV filter and a B+W one, I believe Leica never produce low quality stuffs. But my Leica filter is a bit old, with some sign of usage, and a very small stain which I cannot remove with my lens cloth. To tell the truth, the filter looks very transparent and clean overall, if you don't compare to a new one. Still, I guess you can understand, the stain somehow bothers me, even I shot some pics with/without the filter, and they looked no difference.

My questions are:

How to judge a UV filter's optical quality besides shooting some pics? And how to clean a UV filter? Do I need to change to B+W filter?

And I am also looking for E39 color filters (yellow and orange). Cathy doesn't have any. Does anyone know where I can buy one?

Cheers!

I always buy my B+W filters from robertwhite in UK. His price for B+W MRC E39 skylight is about GBP 19 plus shipping of GBP 11-15 (depending on how many filters). If you buy more than 1 filters, it's cheaper doing it that route.

I won't be surprised if Leica's UV filters are simply B+W rebranded....

Why dont you try Carl Zeiss filters?
I just bought one from SLR Revo. It looks yellow when u place it on white paper but that's bcoz of the special T* coating that minimises ghosting when u r shooting in colored light.
gd stuff i must say
