Leica T

Just had a hands-on with the Leica T at the Leica Boutique at Raffles Hotel. I must say, it is an object of beauty. I also quite like the interface. Only thing was that the EVF did not work on the first unit it was on and they had to switch it to another Leica T body. I would be quite annoyed if the (expensive) EVF did not work on a Leica T I had bought. That aside, I was quite impressed and will almost certainly want to get my hands on a set when stocks become available.

Ok, so I took the plunge and just got a Leica T. I am loving it at the moment, primarily because it has made it so much easier for me to use my M lenses! I was initially concerned because the image on the EVF looked a little yellow with my M lenses, but the Leica T has a function to allow you to adjust the colours on the EVF so this issue was fixed in about 30 seconds.

Really enjoying the feel of the camera but will be looking around for a case for it. The camera sits great in your hands but you feel a little vulnerable carrying it without something to protect that gorgeous aluminium body.

Its available already?

Called Cathay, they said early July.

Vivo city has a Leica booth which was accepting pre orders... I really offended the sales guy when i said I wanted to see the camera that looked like a NEX ;) Going into length about how it was made from a single Aluminium block... Was fun though :bsmilie:

The camera has been available since Monday at the Leica Boutiques. All other distributors have to wait about 2 weeks before they get their stocks. My usual camera shops in Funan told me that they would only get the camera around the end of the first week of June but since it's unlikely that there will be a discount for this, I just bit the bullet and bought direct from the Leica Boutique.

I bought the Leica T together with the 18-56 lens but I'm really using it more with my M lenses. Did some quick shots with my 90mm Summicron last night (using the M-adapter) and I was quite pleased with the results. It is really much easier to focus (even though there is no peaking) compared to using my M240.

Personally I hated the interface. Feels like using an iPhone. But not as intuitive despite the appearance. Kit lens is terrible. The M9 or M240 are both much nicer IMO.

Kit lens minimum focus is quite long, I think 40-50cm.

I think that was the idea...

I have had the Leica T for a few days now and I will say that I am smittened by it. I like the interface because it is clean and simple to use. Everyone who uses a smart phone will almost instantly know how to use it. All you need is a maximum of two taps of your finger to get to you to any setting you need. No more unnecessarily complicated menus. Also, it is customisable like any smart phone. You can drag and drop the settings you use most frequently to the start up screen. That ease of use wins it for me.

Most of all, I like the Leica T because it works so well with all my M lenses (using the M-Adapter). Focusing is so easy (less fumbling than when I use my Leica M240 - I admit I still need practice to focus my M240 quicker) and the photos turn out great. If you are thinking of buying the Leica T just based on the kit lens, then I would suggest that you reconsider. There are clearly better and much cheaper cameras that do the same job out there. But if you are already in the Leica ecosystem, or are just drawn to how beautiful the camera is (it really is a joy to hold in your hands), then perhaps the Leica T is for you. It is almost counter-intuitive to fall for the Leica T. It is easy to criticise the camera but as one review out there said, you will soon love it even for its flaws. It's strange, but it's true. Between the Leica T and my M240, I'm afraid the latter is going to be spending a little more time in my dry cabinet than it used to.

Hi there. I am also quite keen on this. May I ask you a question I've been unable to get a suitable answer too, even from the boutiques? Does the M-adaptor ONLY work on "newer" Leica M lenses which are 6 coded? What happens when you try to use an older lens or a non-Leica lens. Obviously the reason I'm asking is I've a thought about using this combo together with some older Leica glass as well as say some Voigtlander lens. I understand it is "all manual" when it comes to focusing, but I'm wondering how the rest of the camera work? Does aperture mode work? Does the metering work? All do you have to figure everything out yourself? Was told by one store that the T "doesn't even recognise that a lens is mounted."

I'm afraid I am not going to be very helpful as my M lenses are 6 bit coded (35mm Cron, 50mm Lux and a 90mm Cron)and they all work very well with the Leica T and an M adapter.

On your second question, when you swap in an M lens, you only have the choice of aperture priority mode or full manual mode. You have two command dials on the top of the camera. In the aperture priority mode, the left dial is defaulted to a zoom mode which can help you focus; while the right dial is defaulted to ISO settings. The aperture and focusing of course remains controlled by the rings on your lens. White balance, metering, exposure compensation, resolution, timer, file formats, etc can all be changed using the quick menu on the screen if you need it.

It was quite simple to figure the camera out. It is not complicated.

One more thing I should add. It's a personal thing but if you intend to use M lenses, you really should just get the EVF as well. Works much better with the EVF than just relying on the camera screen.

I have tried the Leica T with M & R lenses, also CV and Canon FD lens. All work perfect. Focus on the LCD is easy, better if with Visoflex.

I had forgotten I had an EOS to M adapter as well! Just spent the last 30 minutes trying my Canon lenses (EF lenses) on the Leica T as well. All work fine.

Thanks for the feedback. Will wait till early July for the black one. I've heard that most pp prefer the silver one, but I've always preferred black. If you have any other details to share, please do. I really appreciate it.

Hi, has any of you owners have the firmware updated already or they are already updated when purchased?
Are there noticeable improvements?. Thks

Based on my understanding that the next shipment will arrive next week for the dealer on Singapore.

Anyway, manage to play with it with M Len and all I can say is very good in holding and focusing with the EVF is very easy no problem. I think it is true that the JPEG is under expose and DNG file no problem at all which I had read from online blog.

Hi,

I would like hear your review on the manual focus using M lenses with the Leica T. e.g the magnification is it default at the centre of the frame or on the focus point set by the touch focus?

hope you understand what i meant..

Thanks
