M9M is a camera for the niche market, which means, not many people will buy it. The people who shoots with it are probably also people who can afford expensive item, which means not many of them.....

Leica should have price it at a higher value say US$30,000 like those of their designer M9P, and price the M9P half the price. So that most of us can afford one.;p

Chance upon this 1-yr-old thread. Just checking if any bros here got this MM? If so, what's your experience of it, in terms of IQ, processing. Any operation issues (such as card corruption, camera freeze, banding, etc).

Apparently not a failure as some have expected it to be. Success to the point that other camera manufacturers are now making B&W only cameras.

I'm no B&W enthu.

What I can tell is same hardware as M9(Processor & sensor),....only require firmware rewite to achieve higher ISO application.

If someone can break the processor access to 'remap' just like 'thing-ka-ling' ECU in cars,...any M9 can be converted into M9-M and back to regular M9 in a couple of button presses and perhaps 10% of M9-M cost to software writter!

IIRC, the M9-M does not have a layer of color filters on top of the sensor. It is the filters that enable the sensor to detect colors, but at the same time that decrease the sensitivity and sharpness of the image. While the M9 and M9-M are physically and hardware identical for most parts, it is the lack of color filters that marks their difference. The firmware needs to be updated to interface with the "new" sensor. Therefore, installing a M9-M firmware into the M9 will not convert it into a M9-M.

I mean that the M9-M sensor does not have the colour filters found on top of the M9's sensor. A customised firmware will be not able to replicate that.
