LEICA M9-M..... Well it's new... what you think ?

DISCUSSION.....

Can the M9 / M9-P with Silver Efex Pro or similar do the same thing ?

And it's still 18MP. ?

Is the sensor actually B&W or is it internal processing.... ?

Price, it's costing more than the M9-P !! What you think..... ?

Share your thoughts here bro's :)

i love the m9m, hope it becomes affordable in the secondary market,
in the meantime, it makes us love our film camera more, no ?

because of the poor latitude for highlights and huge reservoir of shadows
recorded, i think it will change the way a person shoot with the m9m.

with my current r-d1 camera, i find that the AE is indispensable, unlike
on my no-battery film cameras where i am comfortable shooting film
and sunny-16. all my sunny-16 pictures tend towards over-exposure,
a habit i guess. but my r-d1 pictures look down right horrible overexposed if i do not use AE.
So i can imagine that on a m9m, splotchy white patches are just dead pixels.

Does that mean we will see a lot of dark b&w photos from M9M with rich moody shadows ?

I read through the very detailed review by Sean Reid on the M9M. There are many things to consider, and it is not a slam dunk in noise or dynamic range.

looking at the pics he published, here is my personal interpretation.

there is almost no difference in resolution at 100%, and some marginal difference at 200% zoom -- with M9M having more resolution. M9M also has a useable iso 2500, but iso 5000 is not. Finally, pictures look clean and digital, so it will need post-processing to give it a film look, if that is what you want.

I would fail to distinguish between the M9 and the M9M by looking at the pics for sure.

Conclusion: stick to trix.

M9m is a direct offensive against Tri-X.

M9m is telling you

"look at me"

"i do black n white"

"i do high iso"

"i am high resolution"

"i am digital, no need to develop"

"hey look, i cannot shoot color (at all). I am a purist camera (evoke history of black n white photography, yea magnum will use me)"

It is clear M9m is targetting the Tri-X niche.

I'm still sticking to Tri-X and Neopan.

I feel pretty good about that."

lol win!

The high ISO of 10,000 might be desirable for some

The sample shots look horrible if you ask me...

FWIW, here's a continuously updated list of M Monochrom information.

I like the camera, and the sensor. But to be honest, I just don't shoot enough B&W to justify it. For those times that I do, I'd rather just load up the M7 with real film - or use something like Silver Efx on the M9 files. But clearly this camera isn't for the likes of you or I.

Luckily M9-M still uses a dogshit LCD, otherwise bo lui-ppl (like moi) where to find excuse for not buying n still talk big ;)

I feel that the M9M may eventually evolve to a fool's camera - some joke in leica history, especially once M10 is launched. The sample pics just look very clinical and lifeless to me...

nah...i hope the m9m becomes a hit,
i can't wait to get my grubby hands on it....
i dun shoot color so why not a higher resolution
camera ?

I am beginning to wonder whether B&W is so subjective to some. Some of the comments on RFF are reeking of snobbery, from silly comments like "tourist pictures" etc. etc. I think people are getting too downright emotional about this.

Actually I was wondering what took them so long to come up with this. I don't shoot digital other than my iPhone, but when I tried my bro's X100 it's always on B&W stimulation. I still find the price ridicules though, I think they are getting out of touch with the real photographers

luv this quote.

This is an extremely niche camera, not many people will understand it and think they can get the same results shooting in B&W mode on their existing cameras. That is not true.

There are people out there that actually asked for this camera, there were a few threads in other forums where people petitioned Leica for a B&W only body. But not at this price:p

Also for those that compare this to a roll of film, last I checked, the Hasselblad Flextight X5 sensor costs around SGD30K.

And usable film at ISO 10000?

Comparing digital "photos" with film is like comparing an artwork drawn using an iPad with one done on canvas using oil. It's never the same. There is no comparison
