Body is a little below US$5000 and the tri elmar is supposed to be close to €3000. No idea about the 28mm. Photokina right round the corner, am sure more news will be popping out soon.

it's said (aka rumoured) the 28 will be "cheap" as the new kit lens, probably higher than the 50 cron and lower than or near to the price of a 35 cron asph.... i'm hoping no more than SGD $2.3! :bsmilie:

But it is indeed true that the desire of a digital M defies logic

it should be the desire of any M defies logic! :bsmilie:

the dpreview writeup on the M included this statement: "Owning a Leica M camera has always been something people do with their hearts as much as their heads.".

how apt :)

May I employ Popper's falsification rule to defy the defies? To begin with, RF and SLR entail different shooting style. If you prefer one over the other, than that's a good enough reason. Then we consider all the RFs. Some like the built quality of the Leica, some prefer the large finder of the Ikon and some prefer the travel-lite of the Bessa. You could include other reasons like handling, egonormics, looks, etc... It may be just a matter of preferences...

Imagine what the elderly guy in Chinatown would say in terms of defied logics, if you choose anything else but Leicas :bsmilie:

:bsmilie: Lets hope thats a Russian imitation of that.:bsmilie: I just seen my dream cam got further away in this digital age.

i bought my M stuff new, but grey market, so i guess that's the reason why i din get an invite

eh. how does one go about getting oneself....uhmm...invited? would like to actually see the DMR in person :)

Hi,

Easy, just get yourself onto the mailing list. My M+R have been purchased new locally, overseas and grey. Actually, I am already a DMR user. I bought it after it was launched last year. Therefore, I was surprised to receive the invitation to try out the DMR. May be it is the M8! I can dream, right??

May be lower if they get Panasonic to manufacture it, just like those DC lenses from Lumix.

That is not possible. No M lens has been, and ever will be made in Japan. (That is quite unlike the R lenses long ago)

ok.... now that i've committed myself, we can all dig out this post in 3-5 yrs time to see if i'm right :bsmilie:

To be on the safe side, you should say "No Leica-made M lens has been ...", else, one don't really have to wait 3-5 yrs :bsmilie:

I agree with someone on the post about deying logic about owing leicas.

I myself, am about to jump into the foray by owing a new M7.

Or should i throw the mad amount of $ into the M8? haha.

I seriously should start dabbling in stocks and shares and once i have enough $, i use that to buy my M8 or M7. or just both. heehee.

Cheers

You are assuming that you can always make money by dabbling in stocks and shares. Bear in mind that you may end up losing your house instead, as well as all hope of owning any of these beauties. Just save some money every month and before you know it, you will have the money to buy it.

Hahah.....please don't take me too seriously, it is just early Tuesday morning rambling. ;)

Actually, I can see a need for the Leica M film cameras(M2-MP) and I don't believe it defies logic in some applications. But the desire for the new digital M8 does defy logic IMO.

Leica M film cameras are great for unobtrusive shooting in low light conditions (with the appropriate lenses) - like inside churches during a wedding ceremony where you don't want to interrupt the proceedings and the ambient light conditions are pretty low. The cloth shutter is whisper quiet. Great for photo-journalistic type wedding work. Or unobtrusive travel and street photography.

I can even understand the tactile enjoyment one gleans from the buttery feel of the film advance.

The M8 has neither... take away the Leica badge and it is like any other digital camera on the market except that it is overpriced.
