Thinking of changing the leather re-covering on my M9. Any one knows if this will void the warranty? Thanks

Nope unless you remove parts (frame selector lever) and break them.

The newer coverings don't require you to remove anything.

I have an aftermarket covering on M9 & warranty too. Purchased this way. Sharkskin? Lizard? What you covering it with?

My MP was black lizard for awhile, currently it is black croc. Black croc leather helps you take better photos.

I am also planning to replace my M9 stock skin to leather skin. Do you think its better to overlay the new leather skin on the existing one or need to remove the stock skin then place/paste the new leathe skin? and sorry been ask already just want to confirm from fellow CSer if you remove and replace the skin will it void the warranty? anyone tried bring their modified skin Leica back to Leica CS for repair or cleaning?

Remove old skin then clean/remove all the residue with pure ethanol then apply new skin. I never seen or heard of anybody applying new skin on old skin

Thanks yeah been watching some youtube as i got some true leather skin from Aki-Asahi for M9 but worried coz the M9 just had an extended warranty fir the next 9 more months and skin was replaced also recently by Leica. I read and heard that Leica may not honour the warranty by removing the skin.

Thanks and cheers i have been inching to change my M9 skin even bought two leather skin haha.

Oh yes indeed, lots of resources on youtube, DIY re-skin is certainly enjoyable - have fun!

Thanks bro now i need a took for the tool to remove the frameline lever hehe

@ albertri: this is what you need (not related to seller, but i've bought it myself). Cheaper to get the whole set, provided you intend to use the rest of the sizes in the future. You never know when such things can be useful..

The ocher will be stunning on The m9!

I had done this before (from cameraleather.com and aki ). Simple DIY job. No special tool required.

Just do it! :D

Thanks to this thread it gives me more info and technique require for me to proceed with the re-skinning of my M9 :-) Thanks to bro @ricleo for sharing the re-skinning info help me a lot :-)

I notice Aki-Asahi M8/M9 leather skin has a cut out at the frameline lever so this prompt me from not using or buying the clamp wrench and also uses the wet technique but I've used water instead of the non-moisturizer antiseptic gel aka gel hand wash. Here are some pix not complete but just some tidbits

I'll skip to the removing of skin those are easy the easiest actually.

Here's the M9 naked ^_^ (maybe asked why there's an alcohol? I use it to wash and clean my hands hahaha)

Now cleaning up the adhesive residue.. My technique is what my father told me before when I was young. To remove adhesive residue you need an adhesive also e.g. scotch tape. this is what I always do when I am removing price tag sticker on the items I bought after removing the price tag sticker still have some adhesive left over I either use the same sticker or use scotch tape around 95% of the time this works.

Using scotch Tape to clean off remaining adhesive (don't want to use alcohol or chemical as this is something corrosive to the plastic/paint etc)

Here's the before

The Skin sticking time! Started working on the Frameline Lever using the wet technique. I've damp the leather sticky side with a little bit of water

continuation

I got carried away and forgot to take more pix hehe but I did use the chopstick (sharpen one end the broader side) as a form of spatula so I could reach the corners and since its soft wood it will not scratch the body. Make sure after you sharpen it try to make the end roundy a bit by rubbing the chopstick to any hard surface.

(reuse the Aki-Asahi sticker wax paper to keep my stock M9 skin)
