i was using my m6 earlier today and to my shock i found some hairline scratches on my cam. it seems like it has brushed against some metal and it looks really ugly. :( heartache... anyone knows how to 'polish' these away? also, some part of the rubber eyepieve has been cut. anyone knows where can i replace the rubber part of the eyepiece and how much?

Scratches and user marks gives a Leica character. Dont worry about it. As for metal polish, maybe you can try this brand called "Brasso", i used it with great effect on my BMX bike in the past.

Imo, the only real solution to the hairline scratches problem is to give it more scratches.
It's the very reason why I prefer to buy well used item over cosmetically perfect ones. Too perfect, and you'll tend to be overprotective about the equipments and not bringing it out with you all the time and missing out photographic opportunities.

A well used equipment also gave me a guarantee that this had been used as tool, and will continue to function for many years to come. It is imo especially true for Leica.

hi the dry box, i get where you are coming from, all my other equipmnent have their 'scars', but as for my m6, i'd really like to keep it clean, due to it being my first leica.

what about the rubber part of the eyepiece? anyone got any idea where i can gety it replaced?

Oddly enough, when I get my first MP(haven't gotten it yet), I'll get the black paint one. And even now I simply can't wait for the paint to start wearing off and for the brass to show. It'll be my first too. ;P

Chinese has a saying...

A gun is good if it's accurate, not to look pretty.

Hope that makes you feel better...

You should find another mint condition camera and bubble wrap it and put it away in a safe. Do not use it under any circumstances.

Don't forget user must wear white gloves while bubble wrapping the camera in humidity controlled, dust free environment before placing it into the safe.

Come on guys... We all know we've been there and done that. I can understand how TS is feeling right now, thought most of us do not care about the extra scratches or brassing on our Ms. Infact, it adds to the charm.

Unfortunately, I do not have a solution for the TS except to tell him that it's part and parcel of any wear-n-tear. Just treat it as the first few battle scars and use it more often.

It's really no big deal!!! Shoot more and soon you will forget about these scars.

TS is seeking for some advices, so if you do have a solution give it to him. :-)

I agree with ZoomP.

I guess none of you guys here is happy when you have first scratch on your new car, right? Everyone got different preference lah

Dear lordpain, I feel your pain.

You can try polishing cloths for watches?

I think DIY / Fix-It stores should have some.

Oh Lord...pain...

If it happens on a Black Paint...hehe...I will speed up the brassing...remove all protective plastic from the top plate and end plate...just enjoy and use it...

As mentioned about the scratches that added to its "character" I couldn't agree more. All my highly utilised FSU cameras got more of this type of "character" in it. To share a thought, every new acquisition of those old cameras somehow, I felt a bit perturbed about those messy hair-line scratches and/or chips of missing parts which does not affect the functions of the camera. But strangely after a couple shoots with them slowly I began to appreciate it, and somehow those "defects" or whichever you want to call it "grows" into me.

But then again I may comparing apples to peaches. But then again, cameras are meant to be utilize for its full potentials, which is for picture-taking. Leica or Leica-copied cameras...
