Anybody who has used the Leica CM or Minilux AND either of the Contax? I am especially interested to know if the CM can produce those 3D like images of the Contax G 45mm. Thinking of getting the Leica CM while they are still available.

I personally think images from all 3 platforms are rather comparable. The Contax G with its interchangeable lenses shouldn't really be lumped in this comparison, I feel. Between the Minilux nd T3, I have a preference for the T3 over its smaller size, brighter viewfinder and less clunky operation. Given that a G2 + 45mm is about the same price as a T3, I'd suggest going for that as it's a system that can be built upon with the addition of affordable lenses and accessories.

The Contax T3 can produce pics that are similar in quality to a full size SLR in terms of pop, contrast and resolution the colour and look is similar to pictures from the Contax N 24-85mm zoom. Have seen an A3 sized portrait.

I used minilux/T3/G45 before,at 8R,I find that T3 equal with leica,color diff only.
But G45 still have an edge, more brilliance up to corner.
However T3 is so small, really miss it.

Hi

I own a CM is a great P&S and my only reservation is the view finder is quite dim.
By the way CM has been discontinued and it is not easy to find a brand new one.
Just check out this link if you want for more info on the leica CM

Thanks bros. I was thinking of getting the G2 + 45mm + 28mm because they are so cheap now, but the G2 bodies that are available are all almost second hand. An almost new G1 body is quite easily obtainable though. Only thing holding me back from getting the G1 is that the G2 uses infrared to help focussing which I feel is better, as well as the sound made from the lens focussing which kinda negates the infra red focussing of the G2. The problem with the T3 for me is that the fixed focal length is just a tad too wide for my shooting style, and it does not have a hot shoe for bounce flash. So the CM is all that is left. I have the CM Zoom, and I am fine with the ergonomics and the smallish viewfinder.

Were you able to get those nice 3D like images like the Contax G 45mm, sharp focussed subject with a nice creamy out of focus background, with the minilux?

If you've looked through the viewfinder of both the G1 and G2, you'll know you're making a mistake going for the G1. Nothing wrong with getting a used body if it's still in good condition.

There are still a few new ones selling on eBay. Price is a tad high for a film camera, but I am willing to make this exception.

How is the viewfinder different between the G1 and G2? I have used the G2, but not the G1. I alsways get counfused by the automatic masking of the G2. :bsmilie:

Take the G2 viewfinder, halve the size and the brightness and you get the G1 viewfinder. Good luck if you're wearing specs.

I also used G1 before,I cant take it as I wear specs, almost strained my eyes to death, too small/too dim VF,similarly apply to minilux,I sold away after 2 rolls,I think worse than most film compact,at least those old stupid compact though VF is small, but still quite bright to see.
T3 is best I seen.I think T3 still brighter than G2,but G2 is already better than minilux/G1 much.

well, its good with minilux/T3 pic quality, but I still feel that G45 is best if u talk about max.resolution/bokeh to my taste.

Get both the G2 and T3! I think they complement each other. G2 for when you want a full versatile setup and the T3 for those times when you need something light and simple.

Had both before, but sold them. Just that there were things about each camera that I could not adapt to. Now especially when i use it to take pics of my family, the G2 kinda puts my girl off her natural self when she hears the "woosh woosh" sound of the lens focusing.

Have you seen any 3D like pics from the Minilux? G45 is still my favourite, and my wife likes it too. If The CM can be anything close to the G45, she won't grumble so much with the new purchase. :bsmilie:

You could always turn off the AF in situations that doesn't require it, and go manual.

..If u cant be satisfied with G2/T3,then you can forget about the miniature VF of minilux/G1,and I dont think CM be much better from the review pic of its VF,and all said CM pic quality=minilux though.
Put in this way, when I used/test minilux/G1,I sold them at once due to their un-usable dim/small VF PERSONALLY(read,my personal feel only and I wera specs)
When I used T3 and G2,aha,VF much better and good feel at hand, fun to shoot.
But due to my feel of R3a/eos 1V body/VF etc,I bite the bullet and sell them also, though I miss the smaller set up,cuteness of T3 and super nice of G lens.

...3D is a bit subjective la,how to describe, cos I did not see yr pic on yr perceived 3D feel,my 3D is not yr 3D relatively.
But to me T3/leica is 3D enough for me,they are good to me up to 8R,beat my eos 35/2,lose to 35L from my usage.
But overall I find G45 is best, equal to my ex M cron 50/2,to me still better, more pop,but it does not mean minilux/T3 no pop, only relative theory.
Until you try it

Have own & use Leica Minilux, Minilux Zoom, T3, G1 & G2 with 28, 45 & 90mm.

The Minilux zoom was my everyday camera in my backpack for 2 half years. Sometimes rotate it Minilux 40mm. Especially night lightings. I just carry a small tripod, arm with cable release, slide film & estimate the shutter timing. You will be surprized. I am attracted to use Leica with brown color stuff. Example soil, tan skin, some building colors...

Contax T3, same effect with Leica accept color. Red & green seems stronger. The coating on the elements just pops these colors.

G1 & G2, I love the interchangable lens. And lots of time I just carry G2 with 45mm. Get the metal lens hood. They are good. Comparing them, G2 AF faster & manual forcus are better locations. Comparing to other compact cameras, you have more controls for shutter speed & aperature. Good to be creative.

If limited to just selecting 1, I will take Leica Minilux Zoom. For it's zoom, Lens quilities & compactness. Contax T3 comes very close to it. Leica Minilux 40mm is slightly limited with 1 lens but gives more in the pics. Contax G1 & G2, I think it's different class (Range Finder).
