Leather wear - how to maintain and repair

I have a lambskin leather jacket which has a small tear (no hole).
how do i repair this?
How do i maintain the jacket i.e. cleaning, "polishing" (er, is there such thing as polishing jackets?)

You have to send it to a special shop to try to either stich it from the inside or to patch the front. Since it is a small tear, it should most likely be the from the inside.

Maintain leather jackets is easy. Get those leather protection kits from overseas (I have not seen it in SG) which will provide you with a sponge and cleaning + protection liquids. If the jacket is black, you can use kiwi on it after you gently clean it with a moist cloth.

I would not advice you to use those quick shoe shine stuff. It contains wax :nono: . It will clog up the jacket and cause the surface to break... :sweat:

You can also buy leather clearner and polisher from sofa shops.

Just like leather shoe polisher may not be suitable with leather jacket, the same with sofa polishers. Check the label on the packaging.

Just my experience hor...some may disagree
Main irreparable problem w leather stuff is when leather cracks.
This happens when its too dry
I just moisturise w any skin moisturiser like Nivea...
just borrow from wifey lah...
cheap & good...
no need to buy the overpriced Timberland conditioner..
so far my leather jacket and timberlands got no cracks...
my timberland was on this treatment since 1995..still going strong..

Also check every few weeks for fungus..
if have, just wipe off and moisturise again...

Of cos this applies to normal leather & not suede

I think so too. If your jacket is black, then kiwi (used on SAF boots ) is great. The Timberland stuff is expensive as the quantity brought in is low. If you happen to go overseas, you can buy some. It can last you 10 years (1-2 per year of polishing)! :bigeyes:

Not oily for me leh...it seems to get absorbed
but do at your own risk though

from what i understand, skin contact for leather goods is essential. why? our skin produces oil, and since these products were bought to be used, why not use them? of course, if it's a leather jacket, you can pray for really freezing cold weather at your workplace daily...

anyway, some skin-leather contact will kind of "polish" the leather. just remember not to keep the leather in a dark, moist place, VERY important!
