By the way, Pentax K-01 was mirrorless ILC in the APS-C format.
Pentax was great in the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's.
I have a few Pentax film camera bodies. But not the best which was the LX (introduced in 1980).
It takes money to retool and start new production lines for a Pentax mirrorless ILC (APS-C and/or Full Frame).
There are existing big players like Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fuji in mirrorless. If Pentax jumps into this pool, can it compete?
If Pentax makes a mirrorless ILC, an adapter can allow use of existing Pentax lenses. Adjusting for flange distance difference.
Photographers have invested heavily into the lenses they own. The lens collection dictate photographers' decisions.
Now in 2023, Pentax camera division is a small part of Ricoh.
Guess they have little decision making power as to future direction of the cameras they want to make.
Although Pentax did say they are sticking to DSLR, that can change once a corporate decision is made by parent company Ricoh.
One possible outcome is Ricoh sells Pentax to another company.
