LASIK for Photographers

Just woke up from my Doc enforce afternoon nap....... Must said, the Ops was quick and rather painless (only my wallet crying now). Vision is still kind of blur, like wearing glass inside a very cold A/C room..... and then stepping out into a warm wet afternoon... all 'Fog' up. But I can still see well enough to go home on my own by MRT (after some shopping). Hopefully by tomorrow.... the 'Fog' will clear up more.....

Halo around bright light/object.... this part is slightly driving me nuts. My whole LCD monitor is glowing like crazy.... finding it kind of hard to look at it. But again, its just the 1st day....

Btw TS..... THE FLAP DOES HEAL... within a week. I have to sleep with 'Eye-Guard' for the next 1 week.... and according to the Doc, my FLAP should be heal by then.

wa!!! think i will go for a check up soon too! ;p

Did mine in Shinagawa in May this year and now have 6/6 vision. But there is some leftover astigmatism. But doesnt really affect me.

nonamesg, dont worry too much. I have lao hua but didnt opt for the monovision to correct my lao hua. I've been using spectacles for about 30 yrs and its so much joy to wake up every morning not hunting for my specs. Just open eye..... every thing is clear!!! :)
But you need to go for the check-up to find out if you are suitable or not.

Now can spend my money on Oakley sunglass instead of spectacles. :D:D

$2-3K for a life changing experience is priceless...If given a choice, I'll give up all my cam gear in a heartbeat in exchange. Guess I'm just not so passionate..lol:)

agree with u on this...been spending a lot on Oakleys since my ops! :embrass:

Hahaha... I already have 3 pair of Oakley before my Ops. Just got myself a brand new 'Radar' before the Ops as kind of a 'Good Luck' charm that I could still use it. Today, I'm going to wear my new Oakley for my Post Ops review. :bsmilie:

my op came with a 3-year "warranty", stating that if i require any corrective surgery within 3 years, it will be free. the benchmark is "legal driving limit".

Is the legal driving limit is 6/9 or 6/12?

wat i heard is the eye surgeon there better than jb one. cheaper somemore. they say it's a medical holiday or something with hotels and stay a few days to monitor conditions or smt.

was at the optometrist just now, to recheck my specs. turns out the first optometrist mis-diagnosed(?) my diopter rating. instead of increasing, it went down from 420 to 250! a couple more years, it'll be back to zero! yeah! oni problem is...astigmatism went up over 200.

so...wait a few more years can save on lasik! hahahha!

Have you asked about the increase in astigmatism and why there is a change in refractive error? It should stabilise around 20 years old, usually.

its even better if u already have stabilised "lao hua" or long sightedness. what the surgeon did for my sister is to correct one eye and leave the other eye with minor myopia (iirc, around 200+). in this case, the eyes will adjust accordingly/automatically and she has no need to wear reading glasses.

younger folks who corrected both their eyes to 6/6 will have to wear reading glass later on...:embrass:
Long sightedness =/= lao hua.

Lao hua is presbyopia, which is the inability to change the focusing power of the eye.

You can be short sighted and be lao hua as well - which means that you can only see near, but is not able to change the focusing power to see far.

Correcting one eye to 6/6 without corrective spectacles or contact lens and leaving the other eye with myopia will reduce the perception of depth (stereopsis), but gives the patient the ability to see both near and far in future when prebyopia sets in.

Btw TS..... THE FLAP DOES HEAL... within a week. I have to sleep with 'Eye-Guard' for the next 1 week.... and according to the Doc, my FLAP should be heal by then.

The epithelial layer of the cornea heals within a week but since the cut is down to the stromal layer which they 'laser away' part of, it would probably take longer than that to heal, but the integrity should be enough to do away with bandage contact lenses or 'eye-guards' etc.

i wondered about that and asked about it. the optometrist is as stumped as i am. for the first few years of my spec wearing days, my 'power' increases nearly 100 yearly, then it starts to drop...but astigmatism increases lor.

3rd Day after Ops....

My Hazy & Blury vision have improved alot from the 1st day. My 1st Post Ops check up yesterday was good, with no sign of infection. The Halo effect is still there.... not too sure is it getting better, or I'm more used to it now... but is affecting me less.

Next check up.... 15th of DEC.

Conditions like cotical cataracts, central serous maculopathy, can cause a hyperopic shift.

Keratoconus can cause large changes in astigmatism.

Just FYI. :)
