thanks for the advice... appreciated.
you see, there can be 4 case here :-

1) loaded
2) not loaded
3) exposed
4) not expose

with the black and white side on the dark-side ( flipping of exposed / unexposed film ), we can only know case 3 or case 4. Therefore, we still need another indication to know which film holder is loaded and which holder is not... haha... sounds a little bit stupid.. hahahahaha

cheers,
Billy
yeah ..case 3 and 4 can only happened if case 1 is true. so if you zip lock bag is big enough, then maybe only slide the dark slide half way or 3/4 way down for empty holders. Then you definitely know those are not loaded (case 2). of course, by not sliding the whole dark slide down , we will increase the chances of dust getting into the film slot. so maybe your system is more dust proof. :)

Previously i only have 2 film holders so it is easier to manage. Usually they r all unloaded or loaded. Now I hv more holders so I have to have a system too.

Brother, just called Raytoei about this. There was an MO for 135/120 film.
Freestyle carries a lot of 4X5 film. Do we want an MO. Originally wanted to talk as today's agenda.
Next week we meet can talk.

http://www.freestylephoto.biz/sc_search.php?rfnc=404

Fujifilm Neopan Acros 100 iso 4x5/20 sheets Model# 15058064 #$39.99
Arista EDU Ultra B&W 100 iso 4x5/50 sheets Model# 190145 #$29.99
Arista EDU Ultra B&W 400 iso 4x5/50 sheets Model# 190445 #$32.99
Kodak Tri-X Pro 320 iso 4x5/50 sheets TXP Model# 1791367 #$68.99
Ilford FP4+ 125 iso 4x5/100 sheets Model# 1678288 #$128.49

For a test, i just priced out Fujichrome Velvia 50 iso 4x5/20 sheets RVP - Model# 16010356 on freestylephoto. We have to take into account the shipping cost and GST.
Just some sample data :
Unit costs (including shipping and GST)
=============================
1 box : US$99.84
3 boxes : US$79.17
4 boxes : US$75.625
5 boxes : US$78.64
10 boxes : US$75.32
20 boxes: US$73.365

4 boxes seems to be the optimized no in this case. of course if the order includes other film then the equation will changed. Sure we can discuss at the next outing.

I'm still holding on to expired 4x5 TriX 400 and assorted E6 slides so won't be ordering any. You guys have fun.

Perhaps this may help. I do not bring unloaded holders. For myself, I bring a pencil along with me. After every shot that is exposed, I write the Exposure Index on the small little white tab. This allows me know if to go to case 3 and 4 directly by looking if I have a EI number. Case 1 and 2 is automatically taken care off as well. It also makes developing easier as I may push the film depending on lighting condition and film speed.

thanks.

Unloaded film --> no sticker to indicate film type (Sticker made from paper and scotch tape)
Loaded Film --> got sticker to indicate film type
Exposed Film --> White darkslide facing out
Unexposed film --> Black darkslide facing out

Getting a used to a systematic process when taking sheet films helps in reducing the chance to make mistake. Most of my film taking mistake are due to rushing for time and laziness.:embrass:

I will be getting 5 boxes. I believe things will be Ok until 2015.
But who knows.

I checked with a Japanese supplier:

Provia quickload is 12,500 yen for 20 sheets
Provia 100F is 10,000 yen for 20 sheets
Astia 100F is also 10,000 yen for 20 sheets, but this will be discontinued soon.

I intend to stock up Astia 100F.

Astia is nice for skin tones. I used to shoot 135mm with it. 4X5 will be awesome.
Xian man, many good things about to die soon.

10k yen seems very high...S$166! was it for 4x5 or 8x10?

Adoroma seems to have better price for shipping. 5 boxes of velvia and the shipping is still US$42.2. so per box is US$58.
I think i can take 2 boxes of Fujifilm Fujichrome Velvia RVP 50 Color Slide Film ISO 50, 4in x 5in, 20 Sheets. Anyone want to take up the other 3 ?

Hi guys, can take 2 boxes as well, let me know if you guys are ordering.

Hello Guys

Check with Adorama again. THEY MAY NOT SHIP TO SE ASIA.

I believe in the past they dealt with a lot of crooks and trouble makers.
Many in Ebay also banned SE Asia, including Singapore.

Please check if ADORAMA do ship to Singapore. I doubt they will.

they said they do on their website..any1 order from them before? i guess they may ask you to fax some ID over.

Anyway, here is the Velvia Fujichrome Velvia RVP 50 Color Slide Film page on their site at USD49.50. http://www.adorama.com/FJRVP504520.html
Not sure why so so much difference from Freestyle price.

http://www.adorama.com/FJRVP504520.html

Actually 5 boxes is a good order size as as you need not pay GST but i think I can expand it to 15 boxes. To keep things simple, the order will be just this single pdt and cap to 15 boxes. Money to be transfer to me before the order take place.

Pdt Cost = 15 x 49.5 = USD 742.5
Shipping via UPS Worldwide express = USD 63.2
Total =USD 805.70
GST = USD 56.4
Grand Total = USD 862.10

Therefore per box = US$57.50

1. zguy = 2 boxes
2. lkkang = 3
3. Nikkornos = 5
4. mamypoko = 2
5. last 3 boxes...

Hang on guys.

Anything that is above S$400 will incur a 7$ GST charge.

That means $350 for item + $50 postage = $400 the GST will be incurred = $28.

By a simple calculation this works out to be about $5 per box for GST on this 15 boxes order..
Do we want to do small quantities to avoid taxation.
I really do not like to see those money collectors in the Post Center.

Please check with ADORAMA , I know they had canceled the orders from Singapore before.

based on my calculations, if you order 5 boxes, there won't be GST but the final unit cost after shipping will be US$58
if you order 15 boxes, the final unit cost after shipping and GST will be US$57.50

so either way, you may US$8-9 more for shipping and/or GST. lkkang is also checking on other strategies to see if we can cut down on the shipping n GST.

Feel free to change yr order or qty. As long i have 5 boxes or more i am happy to order. i have also sent an email to Adorama to check on do they ship to SG. :)

Thank you very much for the kind offer of effort.

I was told by my boss to do a Tokyo trip from Nov 25 to Dec 7th. So I may be in Japan.
Let me find out more.
Maybe I can ship from Tokyo, which is easier.

Another thing is, I really do not like the stuff to be placed in the customs side.
Money aside, they usually take a longer time to check or even X ray the items.
I had films coming in fried before, so I do not want to go pass that channel, especially for big orders.
Note that film is sensitive to heat also, and I do not trust those guys handling the goods.
I don't know how Film dealers do it, but we are small timers so they won't care.
I feel better to DHL door to door and specifically inform forwarder its film and should avoid X ray and heat.
135 may be ok in metal canister, but not sheet film.

Meanwhile, I suggest you can take away my order and proceed with only 5 boxes first.
I don't want to sound too selfish perhaps discussing face to face is better.

Ok, this is from Kodak official site:

HAND-CARRIED BAGGAGE

Carry-on baggage inspection conveyors using low intensity x-rays, used at security checkpoints in US airports, usually do not affect film. However, these machines may now be supplemented in some cases by high intensity machines that will fog all unprocessed film. Travelers should be wary of all scanners at foreign airports.

Travelers should politely insist on hand-inspection of their film. Carry a changing bag for use by the inspector. Demonstrate how it is used, with a can of fogged film as an example. However, there is no guarantee that your request will be granted by local inspectors, who may insist on x-ray inspection. Hand inspection may not be permitted in some airports outside the US.

AIR FREIGHT SERVICES

We understand that express air package shipping services such as Airborne, DHL, FedEx, UPS, etc that use their own aircraft, do not employ x-ray scanning of customers' packages on domestic routes. However, this should be verified when sending film. The same carriers may employ passenger airlines for international routes. Goods shipped as freight on passenger airlines are subject to high-intensity x-ray scanning. It is recommended that film shipped as unaccompanied freight is labeled "DO NOT X-RAY. IF X-RAY IS MANDATORY, DO NOT SHIP / DO NOT X-RAY / CONTACT SENDER URGENTLY: (details)".

yo Nikoornos......No worries...thanks for the info and noted about withdrawal of yr order. The rest will decide for themselves whether do they wan to proceed with the order..

Anway..reply from Adorama as below
"Thank you for your inquiry about International shipping costs or time frames. Yes we ship to Singapore and accept Visa and Mastercard payments.

Unfortunately, we are not able to estimate all costs when shipping internationally. When you place the order online the shipping cost will come up when you enter the shopping cart. This is the cost for transporting the item only; any additional taxes, duties or surcharges may be due upon delivery and cannot be calculated. Ship time, while usually fairly quick, can never be guaranteed or estimated because of customs/importing delays that cannot be foreseen."
